I think that the Rangers are going to go into rebuild mode before they become the Canucks.

If the Sabres can't get Stamkos, I can see them trading for Nash as a plan B. I would be against it because he disappears in the playoffs, but for two years, it might not be that bad.

And his value would be cheaper than Hall.

Interesting article in the Buffalo News today.

http://sportsink.buffalon...braves-came-buffalo-left/

“I don’t care who it is or how you look at it, if the Braves wouldn’t have left Buffalo, the Sabres would have,” Snyder said. “The Braves had three times better TV ratings than the Sabres did. We had better radio ratings than the Sabres did. If the Braves would have won, the Sabres would have lost. Who knows whether you’re better off now or not?”

In other words, if it weren't for some piss poor business decision making, Buffalo probably wouldn't have an NHL franchise today.

I read that. He's right. At the time College BB ruled the land. Had they not, it would have been doable to keep both the Sabres and the Braves.

Just another team to not with a Championship in Buffalo though...I kid, I kid...not really though.

It's implied heavily that ROR could be the next captain in one of the Beyon Blue and Gold's, but I don't think that means Gio is just going to give away the captaincy to him. I take it as more of a long term plan. I could see after Gio's contract runs out if he wants to play another year or two, maybe he'll step down at that point and take a smaller role to play a few more years.

Then the Sabres need to take it away from him we're trying to make the playoffs next year.

Because having a letter on a player that has played in over 900 NHL games and has a Stanley Cup is a bad thing...

The reality of the situation, though, is that the Knox family had far more political clout than Snyder did. With those kinds of numbers, the Sabres had no business getting first priority with arena dates.

Snyder wrestled with Canisius because he had no chance in hell getting the Knoxes to budge despite the fact he had the superior product money wise.

That would be incredibly disrespectful and potentially cause locker room problems. The captaincy is in good hands with Gionta, I don't see how him having it equals our team being worse.

If Gionta is willing to pass it on, fine, but I don't see a difference if it's Gionta or O'Reilly next year. If O'Reilly is as good a leader as we think he is, he won't need a C to get us where we need to be.

Yeah, but that was after a lot of playoff failures. Gionta has been the captain of a tank team, and a team in transition for us. He hasn't really had a chance to fail yet. And before that he was a captain of a playoff Montreal team. I think it's in fine hands. No need to change captains just for the sake of changing captains.

Gionta was captain when he was good but not great this dude does nothing for us.When we need him he goes on point streak when the playoffs are over with and that's our captain...

ROR played every game like it was the last game to make playoffs
He talked about the team to the PR every game did gionta????? Nope

He did this season...Jack and Sam stepped up.

I think you are over valuing a letter on a jersey.

Believe it or not Gionta playing hard after the games mean nothing is a good thing. You expect him to just pack it in? His inconsistency can be pinned on his age. He's still a fine leader.

I'm not debating whether or not ROR is captain material, because I think he is. I just don't think there's a rush to disrespect our current captain to give it to him. Lol

No my point is he plays hard when playoffs are gone and does nothing when we need him
