The Flames don't need 2 goalies....sign one to play with Ortio....and then if poop hits the fan call up Gillies.

Does McDonald have another year of junior or is he done?

- The-O-G

Exactly this. And I am still very much in favor of somebody on a 2 year deal to get a better idea on Gilles, and to avoid something terrible in an expansion draft.

What do people really think it will take to get Andersson, or Bishop, or a goaltender of that caliber in a trade? In this stage of the rebuild (which in reality this team is still in) are the Flames willing to give up those assets? Anaheim or Tampa or whoever aren't going to just take the Flames cast offs for these caliber of number 1 goaltenders.

I'm really not convinced that they should give all that up yet. Yes they need to upgrade their goaltending, but there are also other big holes that need to be addressed as well.

We can't afford to give up young talent to acquire a goalie, not at this stage. Not interested in shipping out draft picks either. BT needs to sign a ufa that doesn't cost us anything (players picks) and play Ortio. Worse that can happen is we miss the playoffs again and enter the lottery!
There is some dead weight in contracts that need to be purged this year, hopefully we'll see that happen.
Wideman trade should be a top priority, Raymond, Bolig, Smid, even Stagan should be looking for new homes one way or another. There's enough talent on the farm to fill these roles!

So after watching Ferdland play a season for the big club, where do you guys see him slotting in?
Lots had him top 6 after crushing the Canucks in the playoffs.

Or we could put him in the coast?
- The-O-G

Yep, that'd be the other option.

I think he still has thst potentisl; to be a top 6. He had a terrible shooting % this year but had quite a few chances. I think his time with Mony and particularly Gaudreau shows that simply being on a line with great players doesn't automatically produce results. It also shows how important having Mony playing with Johnny is. Mony can read Johnny and that can be difficult playing with such a skilled guy like Johnny. That's why I prefer Bennett not play with Gaudreau. Not that he couldn't get a similar chemistry as Mony, but it'd be a challenge.

I thought Ferland really started looking better once he started playing a bit more significant time with Bennett. But if Ferland ends up on a 3rd line? I have no issue. It's just a player that can move up when needed which creates real depth.

I put him as a 3rd / 4th line guy that can provide you limited top 6 minutes in specific situations (when greater physicality is required) or as an injury replacement.

I'd love to see him prove himself as a more consistant top 6. The top 6 definitely needs the physical nature, but whoever it is that provides that still has to produce offensively as well.

so the Flames will either have 2 firsts and 2 seconds or 1 first and 3 seconds...and the first pick is top 7. Draft should be a ton of fun

The Wild only have a like 3 picks this draft and are in Cap hell. Hoping BT can find a way to pry Coyle from them.

I have a question relating to the land that they were proposing the new barn to go on.

How is it that they have this contaminated site next to a river and don't plan on cleaning it regardless of the arena? You'd think in today's day in age if you admit something is an environmental problem that you'd be forced to clean it regardless.

Just seems odd considering some of the other crap I've seen.

Not sure of the legalities of the situation but remediation is a huge job. Especially if the contamination has seeped down and is affecting any aquifers.

Could be just that no one wants to take responsibility.

At some point doesn't it become a government issue though?

Everyone has a hardon for Coyle! Didn't he just sign a very cap friendly extension with Minesota?

Yea, wouldn't be easy. Maybe if we took what remains of Pominville's awful contract. At least that'd be 2 RW.

Talking about goalies... what about Kuemper? 25 years old... crazy good underlying numbers in key metrics like short handed save percentage and high danger save percentage... could be a guy on the cusp.

I think he's a good fit for Backs and Frolik. Has the hands and I to play with those guys and the size to keep them protected. Plus, if he knows he's playing a shut down role he can focus on being a pest which is when he's at his best.

I agree with you. I don't think he'd cost too much; MIN has cap issues and would have a tough time resigning him. His age is right for our team and I think he's ready to break out but he's blocked by Dubnyk.

So if you think Ferland fits on the third line, where do you see Colborne?

I like Colby with Bennett... at least until we find a better option.
