The fear and misery this loss is inflicting on the Washington Chokers and their fans is fantastic. It's no wonder Trotz has such a terrible playoff record when his big focus for this game was getting even with Brayden Schenn for a minor cross check. And then he spends the whole night crying to the officials. I'd tell him to pull his head in, but I think that's impossible.

I would not run the PP that way in Game 6. When Voracek was out, they used two defensemen. That was recent enough where they should be able to do it, IMO
- AllInForFlyers

I don't think the top unit scored a goal when Voracek was out and Streit was on it with Ghost. Obviously you can't toss him in cold now, but Medvedev has some really good PP skills, and a heavy shot. So in summary, I don't think there's any good move to make.

You're right, that's an absolute joke. The refs making the wrong call on the ice shouldn't factor into the decision to have supplemental discipline. Neither should the fact that Jake didn't lay on the ice and act hurt knowing that selling it almost always results in a 5 minute major. It's pathetic that a player has to fake being hurt in order for refs to make the right call.

So true. Washington has been every bit as dirty as rev flyers this series. In fact as mad as they have been at Schenn, ov has targeted several players with questionable hits along with the chimera dirt. But no, destroying cooter is ok, killing Laughton fine and throwing Jake and McDonald into the board from behind. That s just working hard.

Mason was a monster down the stretch for a lot longer than 2 games and has had a rough playoff, but the team has given him zilch. Now he's persona non grata around some parts. Neuvy was a (frank)ing Godzilla tonight. But you don't make decisions based on 2 games or even 20. It's why Mason's hot stretch late is not really any more valuable info than Neuvy's 2nd half decline. And career years and then regression do happen. A lot.

If a team was willing to part with a first for Neuvy, in a Martin Jones type deal, it's a no brainer for me. I don't really see that happening, or a trade this summer, but anything is in play come next deadline. Only one can stay long term. I love having both though and first half of next year could be key. Mason does have the longer track record. And his down year this year is a myth. He was actually way better than his raw stats indicate. It's probably best to hedge their bets and keep both, barring a steal of a trade.

- Mononoke

Absolutely -- I understand keeping both, or moving one

If you get a Martin Jones offer, you gotta take that

I agree with all of this except...did Neuvirth have a 2nd half decline? Looking at his starts and wins since January until his injury mid-March, I didn't really see a decline, but maybe I'm missing something.

His save % plummeted as Mason's rose. Someone can list the exact stats. But it was around .900 since January, I think. Some injury time, but Mase was injured too during much of that. Really was a tale of two halves for each.

The Flyers have to do what worked for them in both of their wins this series, which was get the puck to the point and for the love of God just rip it. Just shoot the puck on the PP. Anything can happen.

Or just limit chances, never play offense, and pray to God that Jesus is in Neuvy.

The "hot" goalie belongs to the Flyers in the playoffs, go figure. There are no bad wins in the playoffs. I believe this is the first time this season the Caps have lost back to back games in regulation.

It is going to be really fun on Sunday.

La down 2 0. Can this be? Schenn and lecavalier might be eliminated before the flyers?? Man we should never have made that trade. Vinny isn't washed up haha

Jake seems to shoot a lot more effectively when skating east/west than north/south. He used to be very effective doing the "Jagr", moving laterally from the half boards area toward the slot before firing off a wrister. Seems he's shooting a lot more on the rush or from the boards rather than from in front lately. Maybe his line is not getting the cycle game going enough to yield those opportunities. Whatever it is, Jake needs to get back in touch with his inner Jagr.

i know i keep repeating myself but he needs to cut, even slightly, to the middle before shooting on the pp. he did it so often last year. he never does it now

It might not have been pretty but the Flyers deserve some real admiration for bringing it and keeping themselves in this series.

Its unlikely to end well for you guys but it's nice to see a team committed to going down swinging. Hope you guys can serve up a nice big poopburger for the Crapitols.

Hard to cut when you have no burst to your skating. He's also up too high I think.

Flyers are playing with house money. It will be extremely interesting how the Caps play in game 6. They haven't been tested like this all season. As much as that Kutznetsov goal sunk the Flyers in game 3, I'm very interested to see how the Caps handle just getting stonewalled at home by their former goalie.

Yup. Checking his numbers, from Jan 2 til March 16, his save percentage was 90.67% with 9 wins. He had 1 game against Carolina where he gave up 3 goals on 18 shots for an 83% save percentage. Remove that 1 game and his save percentage goes up to 91.20% from the New Year prior to his injury.
