the most important area to be addressed has to be goaltending. without a legitimate #1 goalie, we can't truly attract those big name free agents. as much as i want stamkos to come to toronto, it makes more sense to land a #1 goalie, and hold out for next summer and hope tavares comes to play in toronto. tavares > stamkos

If this happens they still should go after Stammer. By making this move you solidify you're number 1 & 2 centers for the next 10-12 years in Matthews. Stammer will be your #1 center for the next 2-3 years. When his time is up Matthews slides into the #1 C. Stammer is the perfect guy to show Matthews what it takes to be a 1C in the NHL on a winning team. He has experience in the playoffs and knows what it takes to win. If this happeneds Kadri has to go. Maybe not this year we get rid of Kadri but he's definitely gonna be in play and it's gonna take a nice package or #1 G to get him away from the leafs. Coach loves him gm loves him but if they get the right offer he's gone. So what will it take to get Kadri? I'm thinking a #1 goalie(ex Andersen and maybe we throw in a 2ND or 3Rd rounder.) So now you have your number 1,2 C and #1 goalie. Next up is defence. We really need someone to play with Reilly. Zaitsev is a good dman but he's no #2d man. So they package some picks and prospects to stl for shattenkirk. It would be a smart move for the buds. He's 27 and still has at least 4 years of good hockey left in him. When shattenkirk starts to decline players like Dermott Neilson and Valiev can step up to the plate and fill the #2 dman while Shatty slides down. So here's what I think it will look like next year.

The leafs know what they need to do and got a plan. its year one, give them a break, they've already shocked us with what they've done. If at this time last year you told me we'd trade clarkson kessel and phaneuf in a year's time, id laugh at ya. they know what their doing.

I agree with you somewhat. I just think Kadri would be the best trade bait for a good goalie. We would be really strong down the middle if we got Stammer and Matthews.
