We won't have to retain on fleury this summer unless the concussions really hurt his value. There was a time this year when he absolutely carried this team. He's a borderline HOF based on a high likelihood of finishing #3 all time in wins. Incredibly durable minus concussions this year who gives you above average goaltending. That is worth 5.75.

Whether he would waive his ntc for Toronto is tough to say. A goalie that can submit a list of 12 teams he won't go to can basically pick the twelve teams that need a goalie. But with the expansion draft coming it's his interest to work a trade to a good situation. With Babcock and elite talent approaching the NHL it might be a decent situation.

I'm not expecting a huge return on fleury. I proposed kapanen and our 1st back. So a late first and a guy whose probably a good mid 6 forward. It's more of a clearing salary move since we can replace him internally at elc price. Those are all non-core assets for Toronto and something you do to not have to worry about the goaltending position while the young core gels.

Fwiw there were strong rumors Calgary was offering Sam Bennett or Doug Hamilton for Murray. So the goalie market isn't that bad for sellers.

To be fair, have to throw in the first just to get rid of Kapanen.

No worse than Leaf fans wanting to pay Kadri 5.5-6 mill
- Garnie

I didn't necessarily want him to make that much but I definitely thought he'd get up to $5.5M simply because comparable players are making around that.

holy hell.

you think a goalie with 13 NHL games under his belt is worth matthews?

there are times i wish i wasnt a mod so i could take the ban to say what needs to be said.

- Dozzer

Of course he's worth Matthews, if they redid his draft he would've went 1st overall!

that guy has no concept of the goalie trade market and the value of netminders

the price for a first overall pick would be about as high a price you would find in the league ... and no... a 3rd rounder goalie, who shows a ton of promise admittedly, is still nowhere near a first overall in terms of value.... its not even close.

The majority of top goalie prospects amount to nothing. It'd be so risky to trade much for a guy that has proven exactly nothing so far other than he can play really well over ~15 games.

He hasn't even proven as much as guys like Schneider and Varlamov when they were traded and they didn't even get as much as this guy wants.

source?

the market i know is actual trades. schneider got an 8th overall. i don't think murray has as much trade value as schneider did.

if fleury is not a dump, i don't think toronto will have anything to do with him.

good luck finding another team that is interested in a +30 year goalie making almost $6M.

MAF has been a top 10 goalie statistically the last 2 seasons. I'm sure Buffalo and Calgary would love to have him. Pittsburgh loves him, I understand Murray has only 13 games, the kid is the real deal! Pittsburgh is not trading him unless they get an overwhelming offer. If your saying Toronto won't compete for 3 years therefore the leafs don't need him I get it. That being said ask anyone in Penguin Land and they will tell you MAF has bee the team MVP for the better part of the last two seasons... I don't get the MAF hate.

Either way I'm glad they signed him and didn't just trade him for peanuts.

I'm not his biggest fan but would hate him more on another team.

He's also been the goat for a couple early playoff round losses.

Meh, I wouldn't trade an asset for him...maybe Kapenen back at best.

I agree that Kapenen and a 1st is to much... Any deal would have to center around prospects and Picks

Bernier would have to be unloaded somewhere before any goalie of MAF calibre comes into the conversation

and the same could be said about other goalies ... MAF is not the only one available.

i'd be ok with a veteran goalie, but if is purely a salary dump.

and if murray is the 'real deal', MAF will have to be moved. MAF is not a back-up and it's a pending disaster if he shares the net with murray next year.
