holy hell.
you think a goalie with 13 NHL games under his belt is worth matthews?
there are times i wish i wasnt a mod so i could take the ban to say what needs to be said.

what did Halak cost after having an amazing playoffs run....not 13 nhl games? Lars 3rd line (frank)ing Eller |

i am not sure the leafs would even want to target an unproven.... if you are going for stability in net you dont go fr a guy who hasnt even played 1/4 worth of a season yet regardless of how well he has played in his sample size. - Dozzer
Is Jimmy Howard washed up or is Mrazek good?
We need as many Jimmy's as we can get. |

florida did well acquiring useful veteran salary cap cast offs for cheap.
more about exploring that avenue for acquiring players.
i don't see an internal option that will be ready in 3 years.
if the pens retain, $4.5m over three years and let him walk doesn't seem like a big deal to me. - Tumbleweed
We won't have to retain on fleury this summer unless the concussions really hurt his value. There was a time this year when he absolutely carried this team. He's a borderline HOF based on a high likelihood of finishing #3 all time in wins. Incredibly durable minus concussions this year who gives you above average goaltending. That is worth 5.75.
Whether he would waive his ntc for Toronto is tough to say. A goalie that can submit a list of 12 teams he won't go to can basically pick the twelve teams that need a goalie. But with the expansion draft coming it's his interest to work a trade to a good situation. With Babcock and elite talent approaching the NHL it might be a decent situation. |

i would honestly say andersen.... all the leafs have to do is set the price they are willing to pay and if anaheim doesnt go for it then LouLams just has to say "fine, lose for nothing in next summer's expansion draft" |

man oh man... the only reason fleury has as many wins as he does is due to playing for a powerhouse team... that is it.
and 3rd all time? he's 18th right now... he would need 128 more career wins to get to third all time.. that would mean... as a 32 year old he would need 128 more wins to get to 3rd... do i need to say it a 3rd time? thats 4+ 30 win seasons with concussion issues starting to play a role
not too damn likely |

well, then let one of the other handful of teams looking for a goalie have at him. no interest at $5.75m or giving up anything of value for him.
or better yet, goalie controversies are always good. so i'm sure you can keep both guys next year.

the funniest part is that people don't seem to grasp the concept that many teams will offer up goaltenders over the course of the year because they can only protect 1 in the expansion draft
creating a flooded goaltender market with desperate sellers.... that makes the goalie trade market for the next year a total buyers market |

I've never been a big fan of Fleury and don't believe he's a goalie that steals his teams some games here and there. |

I could be wrong here, but I thought you could choose some combination of protection. These aren't the actual rules but say for argument sake:
Keep 6 forwards, 2 D, 2G
Or 8fwd, 3D, 1G |

seven forwards, three defensemen and one goalie; or they protect eight skaters (whether they're defensemen or forwards) and one goalie. |

And before that draft, teams with two decent goalies may be prepared to trade one rather than risking one for nothing. |

I wasn't serious about trading murray for Matthews. I was more implying that murray is close to untouchable. Most pens think fleury is the one to be traded. Reilly would be interesting but with the expansion draft coming adding a dman isn't something we are interested in. Pens will be interested in adding a vet goalie back up but not sure on bernier. I do think it would take closer to 2 million retained as I would budget 2 million for our back up. We would need a vukoun type back up that we had a few years ago if we are rolling with a 21 year old goalie.
Anyway if you guys come out of this offseason adding 2 #1 C then a fleury trade makes some sense. Fleury should be open to a trade this summer as its better than being exposed in the expansion draft and having no control over where you go. - sditulli

nothing official yet i don't think, but it sounded like they were leaning towards guys with NMC's have to be protected but guys with NTC's being free game. |
