Thing is, this was just a rough year in general. A lot of guys took steps backwards entirely and some did it at times. Girardi was banged up all year it seemed and who knows what was up in the playoffs when he missed the three games. I think that next year you learn from this and one thing is for sure, he cannot play 70+ regular season games. He needs to be kept fresh for the playoffs. I'm very interested to see this offseason because Andrew Gross wrote an article saying that AV doesn't seem to be need McIlrath . He's an RFA too so it'll be interesting. - Anthony5967
McIlrath will never get a real shot with AV here. I would want out if I were him not that he has any choice.
Girardi is done. Appreciate what he has done wearing the jersey but he is exhibit A on moving on from the pieces of the original core that have missed the window |

nobody is more sympathetic about Dan Girardi than me
they really can't handle his 5.5 million cap hit next year if he's a player who no longer can be counted on to play 82 games though
1.75 million cap hit next year if they buy him out, I think there is a huge chance they do it - jimbro83
If it's up to me if see what I could get for Nash first, clearing that cap hit would help tremendously and unless it brings back a top pair defenseman like say Shattenkirk (I pray I pray) I'd keep Girardi for another year, I mentioned Demers before because he's one of maybe 2 or 3 decent right handed free agent Defensman this summer, we really need a right handed scoring winger, Fast can not be a top 6 forward again next season |

Hear me out...
3 way deal involving unknown team lol
Rangers get the Sedins
Unk team gets Nash
Vancouver gets Kreider and prospects from unk team
If they can somehow afford Yandle after that I'd be shocked but if they buy out Girardi and trade Nash it would be possible you'd think
No sure of Sedins NMCs and such but you'd think they're ready to get outta there. |

If McIlrath doesn't get a full time spot it'll be a shame because he's worked really hard to shed the bust label, I think he's a solid 3rd pair choice with a helpful cap hit |

I really do think Girardi is done and the time is now to do the buyout, And I think the time is now to trade Nash as well, I think both need to be done |

We can keep Yandle for sure if we buyout Girardi. I did the math on it a few weeks ago and was actually able to get both Yandle and E Staal signed under the cap along with keeping all the RFAs, assuming the cap goes up the maximum it can, though it was a tight squeeze.
But at this point, I don't see E. Staal returning which only frees up more space for Yandle. - rangerdanger94 Yandle can go elsewhere he's garbage in his own end and with the struggles and terrible contracts of Girardi and Staal do they need to tie up another 5 or 6 yrs of 6 mil a yr for a 30 yr old d man who's not really a difference maker. Let the young guys play.

if they are stuck with Staal, which is very likely, then the left side for awhile is going to be McDonagh, Skjei and Staal
Yandle is not a need they can afford to spend another 6-7 million a year on if you believe Skjei has a great future ahead of him

So basically we have one more year at the cup. The sedins will fail here like all the other overppayed veterans past their prime. I'll just sit and wait for Gorton to wheel and deal. One thing I will say, if they actually let McIlrath walk as an RFA because this clown coach doesn't want him and he goes elsewhere and is a successful shutdown physical mammoth I will absolutely lose it. Any more mistakes the front office has for us? That's gonna be a big one

maybe something nuts, but the Sedin's just is too far fetched, they are going to be 36 years old, they really aren't that good anymore |

well they'd never let McIlrath walk, he could be potentially included in a trade though
I don't think the Rangers will be acquiring any player in their 30's this summer |

Wow I didn't realize they were that old. They still put up decent numbers however and a brutal team. |

I agree here. Yandle is a great passer, but he is not very good in his own zone. Need more shooters on this team. McIlrath isn't a perfect replacement, but he brings better physical presence and a great shot that he isn't afraid to use; and will be $4M cheaper.

Absolutely!!
The D-situation should be much more manageable next season. I am one that believes that with a longer off-season and some healing, Girardi is not a huge detriment, but the buy-out is not too far-fetched. For God's sake, let Yandle go! Boyle's gone. There's lots of room for the young D to play. All of them.
McD-Klein
Skyei-Staal
Diaz-Girardi
McI to sub in here and there.
Many clubs would kill for that blue line.
Also, E. Staal, thanks, but it's pretty apparent that experiment blew up in our faces. Cut your losses and move on.
I don't understand those who are saying there is no place for Quickie. He is an almost prototypical 3rd line winger. This team needs more of his heart, not less.
And, I say hold on to Nash until the trade deadline. He is still a good enough all-around player that he could raise his stock to where some real assets come back from a team that is willing to take a risk at crunch time.
If AV doesn't see that they just didn't have it this year, then kick his ass to the curb, too. Stubborn, stubborn, stubborn. Tough character trait to see you turn things around before they get worse! |

Diaz is gone. He signed a 5 year deal with a Swiss team like a few months ago. It's already a foregone conclusion he's leaving. In all honesty Raphael Diaz should not be in the top six regardless if he was staying or not. The guy is a decent puck mover and is no better than Yandle or Boyle in his own zone.

I'd dangle Nash out there to see what you can get for him. The team played just fine with him out with that leg injury int he middle of the season. Trade Nash, do not resign Yandle, an Nsync Bye-Bye to Boyle and there's some good $$$ to make a splash or two this of season. |
