Based on what? Will all due respect, you guaranteeing anything doesnt mean much.

The history is not on your side when it comes to players in Nash's situation especially coming off the year he just had and he looks like a shell of his former self, even from just a year earlier

To make this easier, what team in the league is going to offer a 1st, 2nd, and prospect for Rick Nash?

Again, Rick Nash is NOT a center, which is a big sticking point.

He is also coming off a year where he scored 15 goals in 60 games (paces to 20 goals over a full season). Not really worth anything close to a $7.8 mil cap hit, especially for 2 more years at 32 years old

Nobody is coughing up a premium of a 1st, 2nd, and a prospect that isnt total garbage for that

- hawkeytalkman

The only team that would be willing to give up something like that for Nash would be Detroit. The caveat would be the Rangers would have to take back Datsyuk's cap hit.

Watching these other games makes me wonder if we have to get rid of Staal and GIrardi because they can't execute a simple breakout pass anymore, it's really one the biggest problems they have, they feed off of the rush, you can't have a rush when you can't get out of you own zone cleanly, these other teams just do it

I just have a hard time seeing that considering that Holland HOARDS draft picks. He does not at all like giving up 1st round picks unless he is trading back to get more draft picks.

Detroit does not like giving up assets at all unless there is no spot for prospects in the system and they are at risk losing them for nothing OR they trade assets needed to continue the playoff streak, buts its rarely a big move or premium picks (like 1st rounders)

Just doesnt fit the Detroit M.O.

Also the general consensus around Detroit is they are forward heavy except at top 6 center now with Datsyuk leaving. Most concerns are about improving their top pair defense

I watch OVI and can't help but wonder if Kreider played like this guy all year he could score 30 easily with his bull in china shop mentality. I mean come on kreids you gotta take the next step already . Guy has everything Ovechkin has aside from the one on one moves. He has a laser wrist shot and is faster than OVI. No reason Kreider can't dominate games. They really gotta sit down with him and really lace into him.

Your facts arent correct here.

First, they have $10.4mil tied up in two terrible goalies, not $9.9

Second, both Lehtonen AND Niemi have two years remaining on their contracts after this summer

- hawkeytalkman

Thanks. For some reason I thought they only had 1 year left rather than 2.

In that case though, it means the money is practically a wash but the tradeoff is that they are paying Niemi to play somewhere else for 2 seasons.

I could still see it although Lundqvist agreeing to go to Dallas makes it unlikely.

The fit is minimal. But as GM, would rather have Datsyuk in Russia, will carrying his 7.5 million dollar cap hit. Or would you rather Move that deal for a price to get Rick Nash that still is in the league. That contract for Detroit is going to be a killer this year.

Richards and Helm all coming off their books up front. Datsyuk going home.

Fast is a pretty prototypical bottom 6 winger. Not sure how he doesnt have a spot on the roster, especially being cost controlled
- hawkeytalkman

Because on the NYR I don't see him ahead of zucc/Miller/Kreider/buchnevich/Lindberg/Nash. He doesn't have the size or grit to be an effective 4th liner in my opinion. He can be a very good player for another team, I just don't see where he fits on the Rangers.

I think they will have a very easy time moving the contract. Cost for the other team is virtually $0 in real money and lets them comfortably get to the cap floor and they will be able to acquire a draft pick for taking it on, or at least move up in the draft rather significantly (I could see something like Datsyuk and a 2nd for a 4th)

He's a natural RW that shoots Right handed. The Rangers have 2 RH shots. Stepan and Fast. That's an issue.

Agreed. I was a big Palmeri guy and everyone jumped down my throat a while back when I said Nash for Palmeri or similar player+. (A trade with nj is highly unlikely)

A lot of that money going to Mrazek, Sheahan, and Dekeyser RFA deals though. That combined Richard and Helm $5 mil likely goes to Dekeyser alone, if not more

Have to imagine they are going to take a run at Stamkos too, which in that case, they wont be pursuing Nash prior to July 1, and definitely not after if they do get stamkos

Girardi isn't getting bought out this year. Too much term left and you don't want him on the cap for 10 years. You will hang on to him and hope he returns to a decent player and is an ok player or has a good stretch and hope you can find someone who will take him with 1.5 retained. Or there's options C another team has a guy making 5 mill a year go down with a career ending injury. And they are willing to trade their non cap salary for your cap salary guy whose still in the NHL. You will have to wait for now until a better option than a buyout presents itself.

Unreal, Tavares continues to show what we severely lack

Trocheck got tripped up with an empty net and they came right back down to score

Even the most evil Ranger fan has to appreciate the player Tavares is. One day we'll draft a player like that, one day

unfortunately you'll probably have to bottom out for it to happen. i just cant see a team backstopped by henrik ever being bad enough to pick top 2 or 3.

it's actually 8 years and 1.75 million cap hit next year as opposed to 5.5 million

I think very good chance he gets bought out
