My point from last night. These guys obviously care, there is no way they don't I just father time has caught up to them. They've played some many game over the past 5 years. Especially Lundqvist with the Olympics and whatnot. I just the window for this team to win a Cup has closed. When I type and think like this, obviously it's affected by what I saw this past week, but there is no rage or anger. But I think it'd cathartic to restart the direction of this franchise.

So many of the core players are still in their mid 20s. I don't see a full rebuild. But I see a retool and some changes to the core.

It's so tough to figure Yandle out. Some nights he makes plays that nobody in the league can make. The breakout game is so important the style that AV wants to play. His point totals are definitely skewed IMO though. Defensively though he drives me insane and he real question is he worth 7 million that he most likely will get from some team? I personally don't think he is at all but I would do 5million per for 5 years if he wants it. No doubt in my mind Boston is going to be the front runner for him.

One of Giardi/Staal have to be gone to even consider it for me

Yeah, I just think if you do that you get the same result we got this year.

I hate Gorton for not trading him last deadline...hate him

Wonder if the Rangers could've nabbed Nichushkin.

Could be very well true but can you let one bad season change the course of your franchise for the next 10 years? You blow it up the team is nothing for at least 5-7 years.

Doubtful but you saw what Kris Russell brought back. Rangers would have done really well and I wouldn't feel so bad about some of the prospects/picks right now

Yea I mean something was off with this team all year. Trading Yandle to replenish what you lost in Duke would've been the smart thing to do unless they plan on bringing him back but how could management knowing how hard it is to win the cup think This team was one of the better ones of the last three years? Seriously should've dealt Yandle for prospects. Prospects would've been good. Have they made one good personnel move since the cup run? I mean good god

I'm not talking about a full blown rebuild. I'm just talking hypothetically trading Nash and Lundqvist. Get Shesterokin over here. Have him and Halversson develop in the AHL. Get Buchnevich over here. Yes the Rangers take a step for 2+ years. But they get younger and they get prospects and few more draft picks. Hopefully they find a gem or two.

Again, the chances of this happening is on par with me getting you stop eating Ellios, but I'd like the Rangers to explore Lundqvist and Girardi for Howard, Datsyuk and +.

Where could Lundqvist realistically be traded in the NHL to a team with need, assets to move, cap space, and a cup window between now and the next 2-3 years?

Dallas, Detroit and St. Louis. But that's pushing it. And the chances of it happening are about on part with Nash win the Hart trophy. It won't happen. Just ways to kill time.

I really like Shestyorkin. whenever I see him play he's very relaxed, poised. Not the quickest imo in the crease but he's good positionally. He'll be over next fall not this one.

The Rangers one are of the farm system they have depth in is in Goal. Huska, Halversson and Shestyorkin. One of them has to pan.

Ha, I hear ya

REALLY hard to see that Detroit doesnt view Mrazek as their number 1. On top of it, they are going to really push to move out Howards contract. Not to mention, Holland has always been adamantly against big money/contract goalies. Howard was his only venture there and he is getting burned by it. I say no chance Detroit takes a flier on him. Detroit also NEVER makes big trades, they dont like giving up the assets. Mrazek also cost controlled to allow Detroit to take a swing at Stamkos and replace Datsyuk

Dallas definitely has the need, but Nill absolutely has his hands tied with two goalies accounting for $10+ mil in cap hit over the next 2 seasons AND Dallas has a lot of FAs on the blue line and rebuilding that blue line is much more important than getting the #1 cap hit goalie in the league right now given their existing contracts in net

St.Louis, who knows. They change their minds on what the solution to that team is with every season. The reason I will say St.Louis passes on Lundqvist is Ryan Miller. They got burned by him after giving up a lot to get an elite goalie that just fizzled in their crease. Reason #2 is the fact that they are a poor franchise (financially) and they operate in the red almost every year and that a big contract to add to the books. They also really, really like Jake Allen

A lot of people also keep pointing to Calgary, but is Calgary really going anywhere in the next 2-3 years that they take this massive home run swing at Lundqvist and give up some very high pieces? I think they have some cap issues of their own moving forward. Also, hard to see that they come out of the West in the next 3 years past Chicago, Anaheim, Los Angeles, St.Louis, Nashville, Minnesota, Dallas. Calgary probably would be in the market for cheaper options that still might get them just to the playoffs (Howard, Elliot, Andersen, Anderson, Reimer, etc)

I think the chances that Lundqvist would waive his NMC to go to Calgary are one in infinity

Didnt even think about that. Regardless of the teams that could be potential fits. NY loves Lundqivst and Lundqvist loves NY. Especially since he is a big fashion focused/limelight type guy.

Very few markets can match or rival that kind of home Lundqvist has made for himself.

Probably just LA, Toronto, Chicago and obviously those are no-go's

When is the last time the #1 free agent signed with a last place team?

Yea Toronto is home for Stamkos and all, but any competitive player likely balks at a lot of money and playing at home in their prime when they are assuredly going to be a bad team still in the next 2-3 years

Thats something that aging veterans still looking for a job do. Not elite players in their prime

but we'll see

Toronto is set for a nice rebuild though. I don't think they have a goalie in waiting though. Forget the fact the I'm pushing for a rebuild and trading Lundqvist. But Toronto will have a top 5 pick this year to go along with Marner, Nylander, Kapenen as headlining prospects. They got a good young player in the Phaneuf deal, in Tobias Lindberg, and they drafted a few under the radar forwards last year. They need another defender and goalie for sure.
