I get their point though, in a way. Their bigger issue isn't those two, it's the money they've had to pay others - the price of paying cup winning players.

Their issue is the fact that they have a million NMCs and NTCs. That's the main thing that strapped them.

I'll say that I think they're going to win the series now that it's going back to Chicago.
As soon as Stamkos has a 5 game goal drought or misses a game the boards will light up with people saying "I knew we shouldn't have signed him, I wanted player x instead!" People from the teams that swung and failed will talk about how they're glad they never got him and their GM was so smart for not paying enough. Fans from teams that never tried will start using it as a punchline. Then he'll score 40 goals and Toronto media will talk about how he didn't do enough (unless he goes to Toronto then it's "40 goals, the new 400?") And unless he wins a cup there will always be disagreement among fans about he's not worth it or it's the team or it's luck. And then if he wins one it'll be "Why didn't we win it at home" and "Ugh the parade is going to make parking BRUTAL"

Dead fuking horse, but here it is anyway:
Nobody says 91 stinks. He costs so much $ and it might prevent us from being able to fill in the missing pieces when we are ready for a Cup run in a couple years. Even with him we are not a Cup team next year. If we are, then the crappy Mouson/Gio contracts are in the way. I do, however, trust TM to do the right things.
IF we get him I will cheer as loud as anyone. I will change my daughter's name to Steven for Chrissakes. But I will also be holding my breath big time once the kids hit RFA time.
Cup teams HAVE to be deeeeep as well as having top-end talent.

Gio, Legwand and Franson will be gone before Jack/Samson get their raises. Those three bum contacts would cover Stammer. Moulson's 5 would be coming off the year after their increases and we have double digit cap space right now. IMO we are in pretty good shape even with 11m in one contract, no?
