This group of players have been an awful group of players for many years. They have been awful because the players lack talent, commitment, professionalism or something else. The only three players who should be safe should be McDavid, Draisaitl and Nurse
RNH has done little. He is now an overpaid third line centre.
Yakopov has done even less. He is now an overpaid fourth line winger
Eberle is a nice little player but he is no pro. Party boy
Hall continues to show flashes to greatness, but will never reach his potential

Some Oiler fans are over rating the talent. There is a saying. Garbage in, garbage out. Well, the last decade has been pretty much garbage

The Oilers would do well to rid themselves of the old guard. McTavish and Lowe would be a good start. Thanks for being role players on those great Olier teams 30-35 years ago...now bub-bye

THE LAST THING THE OILERS NEED ARE MORE PROSPECTS. if they dont win the lottery, combine their high 1st and yakupov to get a very good defensemen at a young age. im not going to go into specifics, but a lot could be had for that comibination. not to mention if they put eberle there instead of yaks.

Erik Karlsson. Carey Price. PK Subban. A case can be made for Dustin Byfuglien, Blake Wheeler, Johnny Gaudreau, and TJ Brodie.

Edmonton's 55 point 3rd line Center is still better than Toronto's 45 point 1st line Center.

Agreed.

Big reason why you guys finished so much higher in the standings than us.

If Toronto played in the west the margin would be greater

Except the reason why we finished where we did is because of defense...?

Oh come on, take off the rose coloured glasses.

Players who are definitely better:
1) Price
2) Karlsson
3) Subban

Players who are arguably better:
1) Gaudreau
2) Byfuglien
3) Pacioretty

Nylander played reasonably well in the NHL.

Nurse did not belong in the NHL last year.

Teams don't want to trade young defensemen for forwards unless they're already established. The first will give Edmonton pennies on the dollar and Yakupov is... Yakupov

if the nhl worked like football does over in Europe where teams get relegated to lower leagues then the oilers would be in the ECHL.

Born and raised in Edmonton and this is how I see it.

Oilers will be hurting no matter what they do.

1. They need a huge culture change. They have a similar culture to the Leafs had last year. You won't go anywhere with a culture like that.

2. They have no good prospects that aren't currently on the team.

3. They still have the same poopty scouting staff that can't draft past the top 5 picks.

4. No players want to sign in Edmonton.

The Oilers need to trade some of those young guys to shake up the culture and fill the holes on the team. But once you trade those players you need to fill their positions as well. And the Oilers have no one in their farm system or in junior who can do that and good luck to them getting quality free agents to fill those holes.

They are 4-5 years away from being a good team as there is too much work to be done spite all of their first round picks.

Whatever, brother. Not sure what you even mean. Ok. The Oilers are great. Just keep this group together. Don't trade for "pennies on the dollar". They are on the right track.

He's laughing about you thinking Lowe (not even in hockey ops) and MacTavish (pretty much just a scout and adviser now) are still a problem. Management is no longer a problem and coaching is barely (PP coach has been problematic so far), it's on the players now.
