They are expecting about 8000 they think. Of course the team and families, alumni and families, dignitaries (Gretzky and a few others from other teams/the league). And then fans. Seats set up on the floor. I was talking to the customer service reps about it tonight.

Just 8k?

I think they're gonna be surprised. You going?

He was an offensive-minded D-man and risk-taker in AHL: big hits, lots of fights, but prone to the big gaffe, too. Simplified game and it got him up here as a 6. If he tried to be an offensive D-man at this level, he wouldn't have stuck.
- bmeltzer

I know, but it is very common for a player's offensive skills to evaporate come the next level. If a player's puck skills don't translate, odds are they weren't good enough to begin with. I mean how many rough and tumble tweeners in the NHL are actually very good AHL scorers? A lot. Their game/abilities don't translate, so they change it up. I'm not criticizing him for it.

And I still do still view him as a risk taker here...just in different ways. He is risky with his pinches; he's risky with his NZ coverage. And Hakstol's system is actually built on hedged bets like those. Like I said, he does fit the system for a depth guy.

Great Win!

Still pissed off that Hak waited until Game 4 to put Neuvirth in and switch the top line.

I watch a team like the Sharks and their PP...then I watch our's and see so much room for improvement. It feels like the San Jose 2Reals' top unit is in constant motion, each player moving about and a threat at any time. It's quick, precise, dynamic, and everyone a major contributor. I'd love to see some of that in our unit. Maybe when we can add a second d like Provy or Sanheim.

Hawks on the brink and I just remembered that we get their 2nd rounder. That would be like, what, around 50th overall? Love it.

Just curious Mononoke when you say is Manning improving or did he just have a respectable game? It's been more than one game by my eye test, I think he's played well all series. I agree he's probably a 6/7 guy but teams need guys like him at 625,000 so Hopefully Hexy can bring in a skilled forward who can put the puck in the net. Provorov will help next year but still need some depth and not 5 million depth 'D' man. That's the reason he started here over AMac to get us under the Cap.

Maybe Neuvirth should have been put in earlier,Mason was dog tired down the stretch and Nevy have been better when he got the chance

He has had a good series as a no-frills, simple d man. I'm not sure I see any substantial improvement in his game as the reason for this though. I don't see any nascent skills appearing before our eyes due to newfound confidence. I see in him what you said: a 6/7 cheap depth guy. He works his butt off and fits Hakstol's system. I think his puck skills are lackluster and his hockey sense spotty, but he does play really good NZ defense and is a worker. And he's put together some respectable games. This does happen.

I do take issue with him logging the most minutes on the team at evens right now, and playing 9 min with the top line while Ghost gets 3.5 minutes. I do take issue with Manning (ideally I'd sit AMac) playing over a superior d man in Medvedev. That's not really Manning's fault though -- Hakstol is the one who made the decision between one or the other. Sometimes it is hard for me to seperate his play from what I think Medvedev could be contributing in his place.

Wow, just re-watched the Manning hit, 1-2 games for sure. Schenn's slash on Kuznetsov was also pretty bad. I want to see Morin in Manning's place just because it would be more entertaining and give him experience even though I expect Medvedev will play. I have little faith this is going to 6 games but I am very very happy they got a win, it is part of the learning process. You don't get much out of being swept.

Edit: Also very happy for the (self respecting) Philly fans at the game. Last game was something to forget on SOOOOOOO many levels.

Don't think Manning will get anything. He shouldn't ( especially because it was a major Dbag he laid out)...
I hope we get a positive update on Laughton but the big question is does RJ return??
I would put Weal in, if not for Laughton but for Read. We need something different we need more chances. Read and RJ both out there.ummmm nothing

Again, Neuvirth was better in first half. Mason outplayed him in Jan, Feb and March to end

Mason in Game 1 and Neuvirth last night played to comparable level. Differences were 1) Flyers didn't get shut out and played with a 2-goal lead, 2) Flyers didn't take a lot of penalties, 3) Neuvirth was luckier than Mason (in Game 3) that side angle shot by Ovechkin from above the circles missed the long side by a hair rather than going in. It would have tied game at 2-2.

Also, Mason would have been criticized for the juicy rebound that led to the lone Caps goal and opened the door to the relentless blitzkrieg that followed.

Not taking a thing away from Neuvirth, who was great as 3rd pd progressed. But he wasn't a miracle worker. FWIW, I was fine with the goalie switch down 3-0 and would stay with Neuvirth right now because I thought Mason looked gassed by Game 3.

Really happy to get a win. Schenn and Simmonds should always be paired together. Very difficult for opposition to defend down low. Jake is excellent at protecting the puck down low but schenn and Simmonds do it at a slow controlled pace that allows team mates to get in position for rebounds and screens. Time to build 2nd line around Couts and Jake.

Manning's a swingman, a 6/7/8, but that doesn't have to be a crime, does it?

He's limited. OK. It's fine to criticize him when he doesn't play well, OK to praise when he does. He hasn't been the worst of their problems this series and if anybody says that he hasn't outplayed Streit in this particular series, they're just being obstinate

And I like Mark Streit. But at some point, the narrative has to shift to what a guy is doing, not what a guy can't do

Looked like a pretty blatant hit to the head and maybe jumping into the hit. Obviously the character of the guy he hits doesn't matter and I know you're just saying that make a point. Here is the hit and a fair questioning of if it will be supplementary discipline: http://www.hockeyfeed.com...th-a-huge-hit-to-the-head

He does get him pretty good in the head. Tough calll as we have seen a couple hits go without punishment. Orpik's hit to MacDonald wasn't called.. But you never know with the NHL
