Flyers down 1-0. MacDonald gets boarded. PP coming. Simmonds goes to Wilson, gets a phantom roughing call. No PP or chance to tie on man advantage.

Game tied 1-1. Ovechkin shoots wrister from circle unscreened. Flyers down 2-1 now. Guess Mason lost the game

- J35Bacher

Simmonds is at fault for costing the team a chance to tie the game. Voracek would be at fault for that 2nd goal but like I said. You erase that first goal and everything changes. The mentaltity of all the players is completely different, you dont take risks if tied.

Your other point is completely wrong. Ovechkin had all the time and space to score that goal. Better goalies than Mason let those goals in from Ovi. If anyone is to blame for that goal it would be the D as no one was aware that Ovechkin was behind them. I believe that one was on Gudas. He was on the ice and I believe that was his side.

Obviously no one is actually saying that but over each lose the same people show up with their "Flyers suck!" or "Worst organization ever!" or "this team blows" and they seem oblivious to the fact that the Caps are the best team in the league.
- opeth_pa

The idea that the best team in the league this year by far wouldn't be favored and likely dominant over the team with the third lowest number of points among playoff teams is just gobsmackingly silly. Anyone who saw this team in October and even thought they'd make the playoffs would have been referred for evaluation. This really is a bonus. The best part of this was (and likely will remain) the amazing run we saw that got them in. What I thought was going to be a brutal season ended up being fun. And that really is enough this year.

And still, I wouldn't mind having a game to go to Sunday.

That phantom roughing call was huge. Has anyone ever explained why they called it?

I'm only asking because of the context of so many post.

Ebbs and flows.

The won last night, people are happy.

They will win on Friday, people will say they had faith all along.

They lose on Sunday, people hate them and think we should start over with a new roster, starring but limited to only Steven Stamkos.

It's fixed. Best not to quote links, because they move from the truncated html in the original to the full string (unbroken) in the quote, causing evil reformatting issues.

They looked out of gas in the 3rd period last night.
I was watching and fully expected the Caps to get it to 2-2.
Kudos to them for the effort.

Winning even one playoff game is a big thing, for the younger players to experience what it feels like.

Winning one on the road would be a huge achievement.

Would love to see it.

Any Laughton updates would be greatly appreciated.

they were going on and on about bellemare (of course they didn't know his name) charging from the blue line in a murderous rage, he should have got 10 games but "they knew he was out for the rest of their playoffs by giving him only one game hahaha" etc

i can't believe i held my tongue

Kerry Fraser and I argued it out on twitter. He said the make that call all the time, and even pointed to Vandevelde getting called against Pitt.

My counter was, he only received a roughing penalty to Tostito's fighting major.

It was a bad, bad call. Hell, you can even see Wilson change his skating line to go to Simmonds before the fight.

I just expected the games to be more competitive. They were in a complete downward spiral heading into game 4. I honestly thought it would go 6.
- mayorofangrytown

I also had it going 6 but I honestly didn't think there was much of a chance to win. Yes the Flyers played them well but playing a team 4 times over the coarse of a 7 month season and playing a best of 7 over a week or 2 is a whole different animal.

The games have been very competitive at even strength. Our collapse on the PK in games 2 and 3 paired with a paltry effort on the PP has given it the feel of a total blood bath.

It looked bad, but I assume he just got banged up pretty bad. Nothing broken, but might be concussed.

OT: Did anyone see the Indian guy sitting front row against the glass where Laughton went down? He is a FANTASTIC trauma doctor down here at Penn. Soon as I saw him I started cracking up. Figures Laughton would suffer a "trauma" in front of him.

- -davies-

The last week and a half of the season made me pretty sour. The fact they basically backed into their playoff spot wasn't what I was looking for out of what I really want to be a growing team. They left me more in the mood to jettison deadwood than watch playoff games against the Caps.

They stayed out of the box last night for the most part and played a very competitive game. The ES play in the series has been fine. If they stay off the PK tomorrow night, they will have a chance.

But, again, aside from special teams, it really hasnt felt like a blood bath. Obviously the score board says otherwise, but I feel we have played them very well at even strength.

If we didnt collapse on special teams this series would have a much different feel.

It was a pretty bad hit whether he stood over him hoping he was alright or not. I thought he'd get more.

i wouldn't have been too surprised if he got more but it was accidental, he's not the cold-blooded killer the moron isles fans were describing

It's all part of the game. I can't reason out special teams from even strength. If you're getting punished it doesn't matter what strength it is. If I'm a coach it helps me fix it but as a fan and you get beat 4-1 then 6-1 it doesn't matter how many PP goals they score or if they're even strength.

I can see people trying to take solace in it but for me it just doesn't matter. If the Flyers are getting torched even strength or on the PP, the Flyers are still getting torched. Same team.

Right, not an even strength blood bath. More like a "let's hold on best we can and hope for a break or two" feel.

But that's to be expected when one is very overmatched.

People can describe the hit anyway they want. If they want to start describing the player that's when I get my back up.

In fairness.. they really only got torched in one game.
