Not to mention a Crosby vs. Toews throwdown hasn't happened either and St. Louis is in the process of cementing that this year. - Reverend Killtaker
Yeah i just can't get down with the conspiracy theorists. Thinking Letang isn't getting a hearing/fine/suspension because the NHL wants Crosby and Ovi to meet in the playoffs is rediculous. |

But you can get down with "Thats very dirty by Letang but I really don't think it happens if he isn't being checked the exact same time."
Similar to the few Hawks fans who said Keith wasn't intentionally swinging his stick at Coyle's head.

So how long into the game thursday until tanner effingglass takes a run at letang? - pensfan024
Too long, whenever it happens.
Not that I want to see Letang hurt, just rocked (every time he touches the puck). And I hope it is done with a clean check, but if the NHL isn't going to concern itself with policing the game, the players should be aloud to do it themselves once again. That crap can't be tolerated.

No need to wonder about the intent or the player involved. At best, it was a reckless stick infraction that should have resulted in a penalty. I would have had no problem with a suspension. This being the NHL, however, I guess the wheel of discipline spun in the Penguins favor.

Great game. Pens really played like the team they were at the end Of regular season. Now if only theuy came back with the Cole Schultz pair...
About letang, should be suspended, but everyone knew he wouldnt. Just as Staal wasnt a couple years ago, and just a lot of players arent this time of the year unfortunately. |

I'll give it to you the way it REALLY happened:
Letang is Hot -headed, I don't think anyone can argue that. He was pissed because he was getting banged around all last game and again in this game. He was pissed because there was a high stick against him on the way into the Rangers zone that wasn't called. He saw an opportunity to get a little pay back while making it look unintentional as if he just had his stick up and he and Stahlberg were crossing paths. He momentarily let his emotions get the best of him and really gave him a good one across the mouth / neck / jaw and tried to make it look completely unintentional but failed miserably.
The league decided not to act on it for whatever reason (and none of us will ever know) and let it go.

Pens outplayed the Rangers.
Rangers had nothing last night due in part to no energy / desire and a good Pens defensive game plan.
Rangers crapped the bed on their powerplays, Pens took advantage of opportunities and worked harder for loose pucks and just looked like they had more guys into the game than the Rangers did last night.
2-1 series lead, well earned

Honestly, he is right about letang. What else honestly is he thinking in that moment other than REVENGE??

I love how Rags fans, absent one, are deflecting the fact you guys got out played by a better team last night with Letang's stick? Well, I'm still waiting on staal's hearing or suspension from last year. So ...
Did Letang deserve a penalty? Sure did. A suspension? Again, if Staal didn't get one, Letang doesn't get one. |

So what you are saying is that it was a really dirty hit, but that if he wasn't getting hit at the same exact time then he would not have had the sneaky opportunity to take advantage of and the high stick doesn't occur? |

The only thing I disagree with here is what I bolded. That was split second heat of the moment poop while he was having a check finished on him. He wasnt looking to see if refs were or werent looking and if had an opportunity.

Also, minor footnote but F that replay that keeps getting pasted around everywhere. Its super slow motion, then sped up when Tanger hits Stahlberg in the face, and then slowed way back down.

I don't know what Letang's thought process was but what I do know is that was as unnecessary and dangerous as they come and he clearly got his shoulder into the hit, so it was intentional. What I also know is that Keith got one game that mattered after a similar play as a repeat offender. What I also also know is that PEB, a non star, only got one total game for a terrible board on Orlov. What I also also also know is that the refs let a blatant high stick that nailed Letang in the face go right in front of them earlier in the game.
So given these things, what I know I know is that the Players Safety Committee and the refs suck, but they suck consistently. I think the series has been called equally poorly on both sides. So far there's only been one suspendable offense which was this play, but I'm sure if a Ranger were to commit one in the next few games, they'd have a solid chance of getting away from it too. See Staal on Crosby from years past. |

Havent read through all the comments yet, but I dont think Letang's high stick is even close to suspension worthy. He got hit as he was along the boards and his stick was up, so his caused his stick to stay up and drive into someones face. He didnt slash at the guy.
I think it deserved a penalty for sure. Someone getting hit in the face is never good (even on a follow through), and you shouldnt have your stick up like that.
But suspension worthy? Nah. |

WAY worse than the Staal x check on Crosby 2 yrs ago that Penguin fans still whine about. - B2B76
Not even close. You have a guy who had his stick up and was hit from the side, so his stick stayed up and drove into someones face. Unfortunate accident.
Staal stood over Crosby repeatedly checking him in the neck.
You can say you dont know intent but when one happens quickly and momentarily and the other is repeated....its pretty easy to tell the difference. |

Absolutely vicious swing. That stuff needs to be eliminated from the game. How the DOPS missed this is an absolute joke - Codes1087
Maybe its because he didnt SWING his stick at the guys head? Good try though. |
