I don't even think people are saying that.

I feel they are 0-3 and making the change isn't a bad option. Especially since Neuvirth has played well this year.

I don't like the fact when people say we "owe" him or "it's a slap in the face". Because it's not. It's reality.

Yeah I wasn't sure where the "Mason isn't the number 1" was coming from.

This isn't even a really big deal to me. I see the merits of both sides and trust Hakstol to make the right decision for tonight.

Both goalie contracts are up at the end of next season. I'm pretty sure there is enough motivation there that any boo boos to pride will be plenty healed by then.

motivation maybe, but once trust is out the window....you know that old adage i assume

serious answer....The Goalie has to be your best penalty killer. If Mason plays tonight then I hope your right and he steals the show....

So how is starting Neuvirth any different? Does it correct our issues?

Does it make the Flyers offense all of a sudden productive.

Does it make our PK wake up and not collapse? I dont get it.

- jak521

Oh, I don't know, how about this... holy crap, we've been so terrible that Mason got the hook because nobody should be subjected to that crap. We have to pick up our game here, boys.

Than Neuvirth has super powers. Flyers will likely go on to win the cup and he will win the Conn Smythe.

The point is, Mason deserves tonight. He has earned it over three years here. In the most important game of your season.. you go with your top guy.

- jak521

3 years has nothing to do with tonight.

He is 0-3 right now. Regular season and no one blinks and eye if he isn't in. This is a what have you done lately business.

So because of the past 3 years that means if he sucks next year he still gets a big contract from you?

The time to give him a rest and send a message to the team was after the 4th goal. They weren't winning that game, it was out of control and you rest him with the message to him that he's not to blame. I felt that game was like the one Roy left the Habs over--leave me out here to dry?Bleep you!

But of course Mase stands up afterword. Never says word one about the play of anyone else. And says he should have had the save on Ovie. (Hmm, then we lose 5-1?)

- bodiva88

that surprised me as well, that they left him in...I guess it would be unfair for Nuev to go in at that point to face a PP cold.....Goalie changes happen for a variety of reasons...not always about a bad goal here or there.

He was sat in the begining of the year when Neuvirth played well and he recovered fine.

Why is Mason this porcelain doll to you?

Even though we are disagreeing, at least we are talking about hockey

I enjoy this part. If they lose tonight, it's unfortunate that the BS begins about some of the other things

I'm ok with the switch. Although this isn't all his fault, he hasn't played great and the team needs a spark to avoid an embarrassing sweep.

Thats such a gimmick. I have played defense for years. The 4 guys in front of the goalie (three at times) are just as important as the goalie. If they dont play well, he wont stand a chance.

Just for the record. Mason has made 20 PP saves in 3 games. Against the best PP team in the league. With the most dangerous scorer in the league.

- jak521

Me too...I still play...just a lot slower. It's not a gimmick...It's the truth. Goaltending is the toughest position. I just don't think he's been at his best...Would the Flyers be down 3-0 if Mason had been as good as Holtby? probably. I'm not blaming Mason by any stretch....Simply looking for a spark. Guy looks pretty worn out...no wonder.

the point is, he hasnt sucked. He has been probably our top player in the series. Game one, no brainer. Game two, had the bad goal from center ice, but made save after save to keep them in it.

Game three was a total team collapse in front of him.

Now, sticking with the , "what have you done for me lately bit"

Since Feburary 1st:
Neuvirth has a save percentage of .903

We could argue this all day. I dont like the move. Just doesnt sit well with me.

If they lose, then get ready for the "Giroux/Jake/Simmonds are over the hill" and "a player like Stamkos hits Free Agency once in a blue moon; give him a blank check".

I'll likely check out and hang out at the Phillies MB for a few months.

And I am not even saying it is his fault.

I think more of the argument is he thinks if Neuvirth plays this has some fallout of loyalty and trust that Mason can't recover in the offseason. That Mason is "owed" this start.

They are 0-3

The Flyers are "owed" any changes or tweaks to try and get a win.

Masonites are a funny bunch.

Had someone like, oh, let's say Bryz played like this in even a meaningless series of preseason games posters here would be shouting from the rooftops to ship him back to wherever he came from.

But Steve Mason? Oh, heck no. Gotta protect him no matter what.

8 PP goals in 3 games. Never seen anything like it before. Pretty absurd.
- PLindbergh31

Islanders went about 50 percent in the 1980 Finals. That was why they won the Cup, not because Leon Stickle missed a 1st pd offside goal and an earlier high-sticked goal by Potvin was allowed to stand.
