Only thing I can see growing is by adding a team into a market. You'd get tickets, local network viewership and merchandise. I am unsure how much of an effect it will have though.
- Aaron_85

You'd be poaching some fans from one base and adding it to another, possibly increasing their value if they get a local team so they buy up merch and tickets and generate more money. In the states, there's tons of folks that barely know that hockey exists, that immediately add that kind of value without taking it away from another market if you convert them into fans. And there's 10x more people in the states than Canada. From a business standpoint it makes sense.

The popularity of the game in terms of people buying will ebb and flow in Canada based on team performance but it will always be #1 here.

The league doesn't realllly give a damn. Bettman sprinted to the bank with that 5 billion dollar check.

Rogers on the other hand....

Honestly, people that thinks he cares about Canadian ratings are being so naive.

It was a dream situation for him this year.

I don't think it's naive to suggest that Rigers losing money on a $5B deal is a concern to Bettman.

I get your points. I agree.

US has a larger population and it's proven by 3 teams in California that from what I can see, are doing well.

Sounds like more of a concern for Rogers.

The league has their money.

Rogers needs a complete overhaul of their broadcast. Clean house of all except Friedman. Start within the studio and colour guys.

It's good for him in the States and to show the markets they have their. However, it could be bad for the Canadian side and it could affect future salary caps and everything else.

He, or the NHL, can't ignore a segment of the league that is almost a third of it's teams.

Very hard to do. They are constantly looking for talent. I had a friend recently audition.

Nobody ever likes these guys, and they are very hard to find in the first place.

As long as we target younger guys with some skill and experience as opposed to aging veterans I wouldn't mind using up a few of the picks that way. Just has to be the right guys and right fit to compliment what we already have and what is coming up.

I think if we can really shore up the goaltending and get a bit more offence in place we will look better, though hard to get worse really!

- Roadrunner75

A guy like Trouba would be a target for me. a top 4 of Rielly-Trouba, Gardiner-Zaitsev could be pretty dynamic

He's just a host for the network. I don't see him as anything other than a guy trying to set up questions and discussion with a panel.

I wouldn't do Kadri for Trouba...

Wouldn't be the end of the world tho.

Glenn Healy gone and buried forever
Damien Cox gone

Kelly Hrudey can stay
Elliott Friedman can stay

In all honesty, Elliott Friedman should be the host of HNIC.
