"Flyers in 7."

BTW

All underlying numbers enthusiasts, are you going to continue to pretty much ignore special teams play in your analysis of match-ups after this Caps-Flyers series?

It isnt unbelieveable. I mean that is saying they squeak by. If you look at the scoring it looks lopsided 12-2 but 8 of those goals are on the Powerplay, 5 of which came from yesterdays 53 PIM(Just for Flyers) affair. You are left with 4-2 and one of those 4 is that memorable Mason stinker goal from Center ice. Also FYI Holtby left Practice today with a knee injury. Flyers just need to NOT take Penalties. the PP is too good and right now the Flyers are not converting their PP chances.

There is a chance! Wont hold my breathe though

Are the Flyers close in "Expected Goals" or Luck%.

3-0 in games does not tell the whole story. You need to look at the Expected Goals.

They count but you dont go into a matchup expecting to score half your goals on the PP. The Caps have deserved to be ahead. I am just saying the Flyers are good enough to beat the capitals if they are disciplined. People act as if Philly had no chance. If they go into the series disciplined, this series is a lot closer. Philly is making it easy for Washington right now. It isnt as if Washington is making them take these penalties. These are dumb and lazy plays

Yeah weird how people think the team that was substantially better all season would dominate the series.

No offense intended, Philly played hard to get into the playoffs but I think the Capitals may be the best team in the league this year.

It isnt weird at all but the problem is that when you make a realistic prediction with Flyers in 7, aka squeak by, they look at you as if you said Flyers will sweep the caps. Caps are a team that is just as good as the other top teams in the league. The reason they are so high in the standings is because of consistency. They never hit a real slump unlike every other team in the league

2-0
4-1
6-1

If it was a fight, they'd stop it.

I guess some stats enthusiasts won't learn their lesson after all. Factor out the Caps' 50% power play and 100% penalty kill and the Flyers are right there with them!

It's just pure Flyer fan arrogance. If the Rangers, Isles or just about any other team (other than maybe the Pens) were playing the Caps in the first round, their fans would recognize they were in deep shat, but somehow Flyers fans thought otherwise because...Ghost? This team barely made the playoffs and were starting to wilt already in the last week of the season, but Flyers in 7, right?

it's not normal for a goalie to get injured as often as he does. twice this year, twice in 13-14, injured in 2012-13, injured in 2011-2012, injured in 2009-10. the fact that so many of his injuries have come at the worst times is bad luck. getting injured that often isn't bad luck. and it's not like losing a defender or forward. you cannot replace a starting goalie unless your starting goalie sucks.
- DoubleDown

You're still not looking at the larger picture.

Out of 82 games, about 15 (and that's the low end i believe) are back to back, so your starter is automatically not going to be playing 15 out those 82, meaning the highest % games played is around 82%.

Like i said, discounting this season, he's played in 80% of his games the past 5 seasons.....so you're saying, him missing an average of 2% of his games played throughout the past 5 seasons is too much to miss?....i don't get it, i think any team would love to have 2% downtime on their goalie.

It was realistic because the Caps are not making the Flyers take penalties. They are just doing that to themselves. For example Washington got a PPG because Schenn slashed a guy in the offensive zone. There was no reason to do that. Washington player did nothing and you were on the Powerplay for 30 more seconds. Washington is not forcing these penalties. Philly is taking them for no reason. That is my point. If they play a regular game like in Game 1. It is a close game. If the Flyers were taking the penalty because Washington had pressure that is one thing but thee penalties are coming out of nowhere. Manning got Delay of game for batting the puck upwards in the air. Why in your thought process is that even seem like a logical choice? Game 3 doesnt really count because that game got stupid after it was 3-1. Fans got stupid and the players got stupid. That was more of we give up so f you guys. Thats how it looked to me at least. Game 2 is also only 3-1 if you factor in the center ice goal. Still close games and then it comes down to the unforced penalties which are costing this team.

Yeah, factor out all the special teams, taking dumb penalties, the 100-foot goal given up by Mason, Giroux with zero points in 3, Ghost being, well, a ghost, it's anybody's series!

Hey if the caps wouldn't have out scored them each of the first 3 games it would be 3-0 flyers.

Do the same for the Leafs and they still wouldn't be in the playoffs.

If I'm Bergevin, I listen...but the offer needs to be pretty awesome to start a discussion. There is also the matter of replacing him. I'm not really confident in a Petry and 37 year old Markov top D pairing.

Would you do Taylor Hall, Oscar Klefbom, Anton Lander and 2nd for Subban and Lars Eller?
