The bandwagon fan insult will never go away. It's the only insult people have when their team isn't winning Cups and is jealous. Once the Blackhawks are done with their runs trust me we will all be replaced with a new city's bandwagon fanbase when they are winning the cups.

I find it really easy to differentiate between true hockey fans and bandwagon fans.

Bandwagon fans call it "ice hockey."

That's a subtle hint, Jillian.

I think you can tell the difference of a die-hard fan and a bandwagon fan.
The difference is one goes to a visiting team's barn wearing a jersey or cap etc..has fun rooting for his team, has some good hockey conversation with the folks around him, takes a little needling and laughs it off, and has a good time win or lose (hopefully win)

The bandwagoner is usually drunk, yelling/chanting walking through the concourse, when his team scores, stands up yelling at everyone sitting besides, behind, infront of him and when is told to sit down he swears at them or engages them in a fight.

It's weird, I'm not sure what people would label me as: true fan or band-wagoner. I had 0 interest in hockey growing up, and in 2009 when I was finishing up high-school, I had an opportunity to take a co-op. I sometimes had time to kill and would surf the web reading articles and I came across hockey websites/NHL.com. I started taking interest in Chicago's run and began to research current good players, what constituted a 1st liner vs a 4th liner, older players who impacted the game, etc.

I decided to support the closest Canadian city to me, which happened to be the Toronto Maple Leafs, regardless of their season. I just figured I loved visiting Toronto and I had previously researched the history, and I knew my uncles and a lot of people in my area supported them. Even though they've sucked since I first started following them in 2009, I have no regrets. I did my due diligence and researched other teams, their histories and players, stats, etc. and I'm extremely comfortable talking about hockey now.

This author's opinion is as sound as those that defend the trophy wife concept. Bandwagon fans are worthless.

What was his favorite beer? Just curious.

He was actually a rep for a local beer distributor. Drank lots Rivertowne Brewing...not the best if you have had it

You mean that international body that uses said adjective to differentiate between the varying types of hockey that are played globally? Yup. They sure do.

I was a rangers fan for my first few hockey watching years, being from upstate NY it seemed them or the sabres were my only 2 options, and realistically I probably started to root for them in 94 when they won the cup (I was only 4 at the time so I can't remeber). It wasn't till the 97 playoffs that I started rooting for the flyers, it took me two games to go from "(frank) the flyers" to "this is my team". The way the "leigon of doom" line played had me on the edge of my seat the whole series. I still get called a bandwagon fan to this day by my roommate who's a die hard rags fan.

I subsidize success and walk away from failure. Money and time are too short supply to waste on bad owners, bad decisions and bad teams that play badly.

If more fans had that attitude there would be more incentive for owners to build teams that win, rather than be a tax shelter.

quotes not working

As a life long BlackHawks fan, I took my oldest daughter to the Blues/ Hawks game last Friday night. The Blues fans were friendly and most knew the game. Management was kind enough to let us stand by the glass during warmups. That should be a league rule.
