Winning game one could have done that 2.

I am all for sticking up for your team but at the time of that game it was stupid.

MacDonald got right up and wasn't laying on the ice.

What has the fight done?

- J35Bacher

Made me smile in an otherwise forgettable series.

Whatever, I'm wrong, Simmonds should never gave done it, it was horrible.

Please tell me where the roughing was.

I hope that Wilson puts Giroux and Ghost in the hospital today. That way, we'll get 2 power plays. Egg on Washington's face!
- jmatchett383

But Amac wasn't put in the hospital, he wasn't even hurt. So your argument is moot. You know what would put Wilson in check? Scoring on the ensuing power play.

I get what you're saying, but AMac didn't stay down on the ice - didn't even act hurt - so the play isn't really what you're trying to make it.

That said, I disagree with the even-up calls. Thought that was quite bad as everybody knew what Wilson was doing by going after Simmonds after that hit.

- wolfhounds

Correct. The even up was terrible. But Simmonds put the ref in a position to do it by even going over to Wilson. Also Wilson was smart. With 7 minutes left about he was able to take Simmonds off the ice for about the rest of the game even if they didn't call the roughing.

Glad to know that we're happy that things should be judged on result rather than intent.

My point is that I'm happy that Simmonds judged the intent rather than the result. No, you didn't hurt my teammate with a dirty hit, but you tried to.
- jmatchett383

My thing is you stay on the ice, score a big goal, skate past Wilson as he leaves the box and say thanks for giving us the chance to change this series late in game one and watch Washington start to think of ghosts of seasons past.

I agree there was no roughing.

But by even going over he allowed the ref to make a dumb call. Stay away at that time.. Just have too.

Now if it was 5-1, hell I would have no problem. Probably even 4-1 there's no problem with it.

You are making no sense. The result was that two minute penalty for boarding was going to be called. That is it. Show some discipline because its the PLAYOFFS, take the power play, and move on.

Isn't that the NHL.

Draw blood 4 minutes. No blood 2?

Slash a stick and it doesn't break no call, stick breaks call?

How am I making no sense? He didn't hurt AMac, but he tried to throw a dirty hit to hurt him, and Simmonds wanted to let him know that, if he did so, he was going to be punched in the face repeatedly.

Now, did he hurt him? No. Did he try to? Yes. I'd rather have the message delivered before he does the same and actually does take someone out.

I guess I would rather have had Simmonds on the ice for the next 7 minutes along with a 2 minute power play late in the third period in a 1-0 game rather than have him fight a 4th line goon.

But hey that is just me I guess.

Oh, all of the things that we complain about being done incorrectly constantly? Along with guys like Keith getting 6 games for swinging a stick at a player's head?

These are the standards that we, as fans, now aspire to?

And it's not like that is going to stop Wilson from running around.

Maybe a better course of action would be to score, win the game after that and then in game 2 target backstrom or Kuznetzsov with a big hit.

One, I doubt he'd take a 7-minute shift.

Two, I'm not happy it took him off the ice, but I am happy that he was letting Wilson know that he was going to have to answer physically for bullpoop like that.

Whatever, never ever fight someone if they throw a dirty hit at a teammate if you might (but probably won't) win the game.

I'm wrong, move on please.

Again you have to consider the time place and score. You are down 1 goal in a playoff game with less than 7 minutes to go and you are a key member of the power play unit. You know you are getting a power play. You suck it up and get even on the scoreboard and file it away for a game that's out of hand.

You know Washington has ghosts about making the playoffs as a high seed and choking yearly. Do every thing you can to put the pressure on them by tying that game up with less than 7 minutes to go.

Professional sports isn't real life.

What Keith did in real word is probably assault.

Are you serious. Maybe you are joking, and I'm not getting it. If Im Washington I am sending out my goons to cheap shot every Flyer BECAUSE Simmonds fought, because I would take that trade off every single time.

I'm not saying sports emulates real life. I'm saying that we, as fans, don't like most of the NHL rules, so why are we now trying to emulate them with our decisions on what was the right/wrong call?

It's the situation.

At the time of the penalty the Flyers had a legitimate chance to tie the game. Even if the PP was bad for most of the night, it was still a chance to tie game one and maybe win.

Instead they didn't get that chance.
