Hyperbole abounds today. Must be Game 3 nerves.

Please, I never blamed Manning. I also don't think the team is going to collapse if he sits, and since we lost the last 2 games, maybe getting Med in isn't such a bad idea.
- wolfhounds

Problem is I think Manning has been one of the better defenders. Take him out and insert Medvedev. I am all for shake ups. But that isn't going to magically make Streit or MacDonald play better.

I would insert McDonald for Read though.

Said it to a coworker today. The bad goal by Mase might have had 2 reasons.

1) He has been forced to be so focused in games so far he just brain dead played what should have been a gimmie. Those happen often and he just chose one of the worst times to do it.

2) That split save tweaked something in lower body and when he went butterfly for that gimmie. It caused a twinge and he pulled the stick away in reflex reaction.

Not sure either of these is the real reason but both are possibles.

- dragonoffrost

Possibly 2. He didn't get to full butterfly; his right leg wasn't all way down. I wondered about a twinge when it happened, but dismissed it rather quickly. You might have something there.

I think I found the Simmonds roughing in Game 1.

Nope, nevermind, that was just a Post-It note on my desk. Back to looking for it...

Flyers down 2-0 in the series and about to play their first home game after Ed Snider died, but we need Neuvirth to pump them up.
- PhillySportsGuy

Yes it is such and outrageous suggestion.

I am so glad the Redwings just kept with the same plan.

I understand, worrying about Manning is like concerning yourself with a hangnail when your throat has been slashed. That said, Manning has taken two bad penalties that have led to goals. I'd put Medvedev in and let him play a game and see how he does.
- PLindbergh31

Exactly! Plus, Manning led the defense in ice time last game. What the heck is that??

Believe it or not, the Red Wings and Flyers are the exact same team right now. The difference between thw two is, last night the Wings made adjustments and benefited. Putting Brenden Smith in was a huge difference. Red Wings also switched up in goal.

If we don't adjust after 2 games, we're not trying.

Agreed. That Delay of Game penalty was crap. And Manning has been playing well. But, for me at least, that doesn't change we need more Offense and Medvedev might help spark it, help get things moving by carrying it out of the zone or with a good 1st pass. And I don't think there's much of a drop off defensively between Med and Manning, AMac, Streit, etc.

AMac isn't going to sit because he's paired with Ghost and they're comfortable together, not necessarily because AMac's irreplaceable. And they aren't going to sit Streit. So that really leaves Manning, at least as far as I see it. And the Flyers definitely need some more goals, shots from the point, and he can help. That said, if Med makes one bad pinch, everything will be his fault.

Making a change after losing the 1st 2 games of a best of 4 after scoring 1 goal doesn't seem too outlandish to me.

Medvedev brings a little offense. Flyers are starving for goals. Makes sense to put him in.

"My reason really has nothing to do with the mistake. They don't really have any lineup changes they can make other then Mason.

Also Neuvirth did play well this year.

Same with Howard and Mrazek. Howard played well down the stretch. Lost the first 2. Not because he was bad. Redwings made the change. Team looked like they had some extra jump."

damn quotes

both Howard and Mrazek played down the stretch and neither were special. Neuvirth has barely played in the last month and Mason has been outstanding over the last month. I would not even consider making the change. Mason deserves to be in there. its not that the Flyers haven't given it their all or haven't played well at times. they aren't scoring. I can't see what a goalie change does for that.

Maybe. Which of the following criteria did he exhibit:

An instigator of an altercation shall be a player who by his actions or demeanor demonstrates any/some of the following criteria: distance traveled; gloves off first; first punch thrown; menacing attitude or posture; verbal instigation or threats; conduct in retaliation to a prior game incident.

He didn't come from a far distance, he was already near the circle.
Wilson's gloves came off first (not by much, though).
He threw the first punch, but someone always does, so I'm not sure how to evaluate that.
He had a "menacing" attitude, but most of the time, players do when they fight.
I don't know if he threatened him verbally.
It was in retaliation to a prior game incident (again, most fights are).

So yes, technically, he could have gotten the instigator (as could have Wilson) if we follow the letter of the law. That being said, I'm still looking for the roughing.

Problem is if he never goes near Wilson they can't make the call.

My problem was it was a great chance to try and tie the game, instead you lost your 30 goal scorer for the rest of the game and still didn't get the PP.

That's great.

I love a team leader took a bad penalty. Love how the fight had such a great lift to the team.

- J35Bacher

I said after the game it wasn't smart for him to cancel out the PP and remove himself from the rest of regulation in a one goal game. It was dumb. What do you want to do sit Simmonds?

Mason has outplayed Neuvirth, by a decent bit, since January 1st.

Neuvirth had 3 brilliant months (October-December) a really solid month (January) and pedestrian numbers since then.

If changing the goalie fixes stuff like this, then RippedFuel is right. They need to trade every(frank)ingbody on the roster and do a full scale rebuild. Because if simply changing the goalie solves coverage mistakes this bad, then the current personnel are too (frank)ing dumb to win.

- Jsaquella

I keep saying its not even being passive on the PK, its flat out stupid positioning. that pic says it all.

Agreed, let's let the biggest player on the other team throw an elbow to the back of our player's head and be happy with our 2-minute PP.

Would you feel the same way if that was Ghost and he ended up out for the series with a concussion?

It may not have been the best move, but at least he was letting the other team know that they're going to have to answer for poop like that.

I'm not worried about who starts tonight - I expect it will be Mason, mostly because Neuvirth is likely rusty after the injury, but I don't think the "deserves it" argument has any merit.

I hope that Wilson puts Giroux and Ghost in the hospital today. That way, we'll get 2 power plays. Egg on Washington's face!

Winning game one could have done that 2.

I am all for sticking up for your team but at the time of that game it was stupid.

MacDonald got right up and wasn't laying on the ice.

What has the fight done?

I get what you're saying, but AMac didn't stay down on the ice - didn't even act hurt - so the play isn't really what you're trying to make it.

That said, I disagree with the even-up calls. Thought that was quite bad as everybody knew what Wilson was doing by going after Simmonds after that hit.

You file it away for next season. That is just my opinion. If it was a 4-1 game maybe I think differently. But when its 1-0 in the 3rd and you need to score, you take the name and move on.

My point is that I'm happy that Simmonds judged the intent rather than the result. No, you didn't hurt my teammate with a dirty hit, but you tried to.
