. Even the bad goal. While a total gaffe, that is unacceptable in the playoffs.
- J35Bacher

Hall of Famers Martin Brodeur (2003 Stanley Cup Finals), Tony Esposito (1971 Stanley Cup Finals), Bernie Parent (final game 1969-70 season, allows 3/4 ice Barry Gibbs goal that decides a game Flyers had to win to get into playoffs; later says he lost the puck due to sun-glare peering in from Spectrum concourse) would agree with this message.

It happens.

See how he does at home. If they lose this one, I think they start Neuvirth.
- Streit2ThePoint

I think if they don't make the switch tonight they won't make it for game four no matter the outcome of game three.

Manning took the delay of game penalty in game one, and the holding the stick penalty in game 2. Resulting in two Caps PP goals.
- PLindbergh31

The delay of game was a fluke.

Simmonds took the Flyers off the PP when a goal was needed.

Also penalties happen during the course of a game. It's the after the whistle penalty that you actually have some control over.

One thing I do disagree with is once the playoffs were obtained expectations do change.

I am not saying they should be running over everyone and raising the cup. But the star players should be playing to the level. The 4th line shouldn't be the best line.

Streit has done nothing. Read nothing. 1st line nothing. 1st PP nothing. Even the bad goal. While a total gaffe, that is unacceptable in the playoffs.

I understand Washington is talented and deep. But the Flyers aren't doing the things that led to success. I am more disappointed in that.

- J35Bacher

Good points. They've put forth enough of a fight back to prove that they could have split on the road had some of these things come to pass.

The PP has worried me like crazy of late, and it's REALLY let the team down. Score in game 1 or 2 and it's a whole different game and possibly series. I am also disappointed in that. I thought the team could have given them a better push back in the first two games.

One thing this is doing by putting us through the playoff ringer is that Hexy is learning which players can be part of going forward and which ones not.

Absolutely. We talk about how winning is nice, but letting the young guys get their feet wet is the primary advantage to this. But there is clearly no value in having Ghost, Cousins, Laughton, etc. participate in this series if we get swept in 4 and Games 3/4 have the same feel as Games 1/2. If that's the case, we were better off missing the playoffs. Every game from January to Game 82 had more of a playoff feel than Games 1/2 so far.

That being said, I don't think expectations changed. Depending on what your expectations were and whether they were realistic. But most thought that we could come in and match up well with the Caps. No one thought that we'd be wining the series.

Certain players deserve criticism. Bigger names, in my opinion, include Giroux, Jake, Streit, Ghost, etc. Read as well, though my expectations of him were low to begin with.

Could you imagine if the game was tied 1-1 in the third with a couple minutes left and the let that goal in?

Simmonds is a mainstay in the lineup. When fringe guys take questionable penalties they usually sit.

I love this.

Our first line hasn't done anything.
Mason gave up a 100 ft goal
our PP has done nothing

And it's Mannings fault.

I think Manning has played well. He's been better then Streit and MacDonald. Has actually pushed the puck offensively.

- J35Bacher

Never said it was Manning's fault. Never even implied it. But since we aren't scoring at all, and we could use someone who can help move the puck and maybe get into one of the PP units, who would you sit to get Medvedev in?

Yeah.

My whole idea for changing Mason is to change some momentum and also maybe get the lightening a barrel.

I watched Detroit flying last night.

Also Neuvirth played well when he needed to carry the load as Mason was off. He played some great games against Chicago(2), Boston, St. Louis, Detroit, Washington.

This isn't like swapping in a rookie or some true back up like Dan Ellis.

I seem to remember another really long one that got by him while he was sweeping the crease with his stick. I don't think it's the one you referenced because that one was before my time.

That is Philly Hockeybuzz..

1. Flyers arent supposed to make playoffs, ooo we are excited they made playoffs, omg they are the worst team in the league for getting owned by the best team in the league and currently the best goalie in the world.

2. Must have whipping boy to take blame.

- opeth_pa

Please, I never blamed Manning. I also don't think the team is going to collapse if he sits, and since we lost the last 2 games, maybe getting Med in isn't such a bad idea.

That's great.

I love a team leader took a bad penalty. Love how the fight had such a great lift to the team.

Flyers down 2-0 in the series and about to play their first home game after Ed Snider died, but we need Neuvirth to pump them up.
