Gudas is one of those who might be able to get him. But 8 outweighs Simmonds by 70 lbs.

I know what you are trying to say and I too hope that someone catches that caveman (frank) right in the head.

The problem is we don't have Tom Wilson. While Homer and Hexy wasted first rounders on defenseman, we could have been loading up on Wilsons
- PhillySportsGuy

The problem is we don't have Kzunetzsov, Backstrom, Williams, Oshie, Carlsson, Orlov, Holtby.

They have more talent throughout the lineup. Also look at their 3rd and 4th lines compared to ours.

Chimera - Richards - Johansson
Winnik - Beagle - Wilson

They have size and speed.

Kind of one of the reasons I would target Max Jones with where the Flyers are drafting. Also a reason why I wouldn't mind getting a player like Kassian or Matt Martin to upgrade the bottom 6.

The best way to play Ovechkin is to deny him the puck. Easy right?
- MBFlyerfan

They should really be pressuring Backstrom instead of giving him all day to dissect the defense. Every Caps PPG has come off his primary assist

Giroux would certainly explode like a nuclear missile. Meanwhile there Ovechkin stands like Godzilla, saying to himself, "did something just hit me?"

The 1st line looks like hell. Almost no sustained pressure in the offensive zone because they're constantly losing every 50/50 battle for pucks and then even when they do win them and get it to the point, the shots are blocked or miss the net from the d-men (outside of Ghost). G is getting knocked on his arse half the game, yet the Flyers haven't done the same to Ovechkin. There needs to be more pushback on that front! Sad to say it, but the 4th line has spent the most time in the Caps zone...sucks they have almost zero offensive ability!
- aantny88

It is very frustrating watching ovi crush our guys. Not many men that could make him pay legally outside of burns, weber or big buff 2 of these 3 flyers have made plays for. My approach would be to annoy ovi by sticking a guy on him and be a Thorne in his side and hit their softer stars like Backstrom.

I don't understand either why the pk is so passive. Every other team seems to pressure the puck in a controlled way. Flyers seem to give so much time.

I dont believe for a second that Giroux is anywhere near 185 lbs.

The Flyers' bottom six has significantly outplayed the Caps' so far. Size ain't the issue.

I don't think anyone could fairly hit Ovi in a legal way. Forget which game it was in regular season, but even Gudas tried to give him a check along the boards and he bounced off of Ovi and fell on the ice. Maybe a sandwich check could do it: have Gudas aim low with the hip check and White aim high! Used to call this Statue of Liberting in the old grade school days.

They aren't losing this series because of poor bottom 6 play; they're losing because the special teams have been terrible. For the most part, the Flyers have played the Caps to a stalemate at even strength. Pretty impressive when you consider they are without MDZ and Couts for most or all of this series and they were on the road for the first two games.

They gave Ovi about as much ice space as the USA has land...

I said it was they have more talent throughout the lineup. And yes it might look like they have played to a stalemate but look at the chances the Caps get compared to the Flyers. A lot of Flyers shots are routine saves for Holtby with little traffic.

Lots of one and dones. Little sustain pressure other then the 4th line.

Nice helmet change.

Although, with two choices on how to read it...nah, won't go there.

Legitimately, the closest guy in a Flyers jersey to Ovechkin might be on the bench. It's about the same distance from the bench to whichever defenseman is positioned right in front of Mason

I think the main problem is that we don't have many players who COULD knock Ovechkin on his ass. And it certainly wont be Giroux. Giroux would just bounce off him like a rubber ball.
- MBFlyerfan

I think Simmonds, White, and Schenn could all do it. Hell every player can be put on their ass if you hit them at the right time and in the right spot!

Special teams for sure, defence more so. We have 7 natural centers on our starting roster who were trained their entire career to be the first forwards back and act as a safety when our d pinch to keep the puck in and yet if you watch closely our d never hold the line and it results in no sustained offensive end play and we are the easiest team in the league to break out against. Allow more d pinching and it will lead to more success

Scoring chances at ES
Flyers: 50
Caps 42

High Danger Scoring Chances at ES
Flyers: 18
Caps: 21

Caps have outscored the Flyers 2-1 at ES (not including the Mason gaffe). Both goals came at the end of regulation when the team was trying to force things and allowed an odd man rush the other way.

Other than the 100 foot goal, the Caps haven't scored an ES goal in the first 55 minutes of each game.
