They aren't losing this series because of poor bottom 6 play; they're losing because the special teams have been terrible. For the most part, the Flyers have played the Caps to a stalemate at even strength. Pretty impressive when you consider they are without MDZ and Couts for most or all of this series and they were on the road for the first two games.

They are losing because of our top 6.

The Red Wings would have won that game regardless of who played. Mrazek is also better than Howard. Mason is a top 10 goalie. You don't take him out unless he's had a prolonged stretch of poor play. Why would you play a worse player?

BECAUSE MOMENTUM AND THE RED WINGS DID IT SO WE HAVE TO DO WHAT THE RED WINGS DID EVEN THOUGH MASON HAS BEEN THE BETTER PLAYER FOR THE LAST THREE MONTHS AND NEUVIRTH HAS PLAYED ONE GAME IN THREE WEEKS

Yeah, I don't think a good argument can be made that Medvedev isn't a better option than at one of the guys they are playing now
- Jsaquella

He can move the puck and provide a bit of offense. They are starving for offense. They haven't really played badly. The special teams have been poor. At ES they've good enough to win.

This thread has had Steven Wright and Mitch Hedberg jokes, REO Speedwagon references and that argument about Wayne Simmonds. What a great morning read.

If that's the case, then why play Medvedev? He's not very proficient on the PK (any more than our other options) and he's not really a PP quarterback. So if special teams are the issue, and not ES play, then why make the change?

They have 5.5 guys who have to score. They definitely have to add more offensive depth to the lineup.

Giroux, Simmonds, Schenn, Voracek, Ghost. To a lesser extent Raffl.

Basically if anyone other than one of those guys score, it's a surprise.

No! That's not good enough! You must replace the goalie who helped get our asses into the playoffs by playing every single meaningful game down the stretch!

team can't score 5 on 5 that's why they're going to get the brooms

Time to trade Giroux, Voracek, and Simmonds for prospects that go along with Provorov.

I'd consider using Medvedev on the PP. Why not at this point? He can move the puck, makes a decent first pass. Could lead to offense. Have to try something.

Raffl, periodically. That's about it. Couturier being injured hurts. You saw the PK without him, and they miss his offense as well.

Dunno about anyone else, but to me Raffl is a 3rd liner at best.

Medvedev can get a shot through on the powerplay. I'd rather have him working a point on the 2nd unit than Read.
