Are there any good NHLers that provide secondary scoring that are under 5'10? - nucks_94
I am not saying there isnt. I can name a ton of quality scoring forwards under 5'10. But this is my point. I am not running the team and I don't have the same mentality as Benning. Benning has been quite clear with his goal of building a big strong team. I only ask that when people want to refer to the best and worst trades by Benning, just back them up with a little logic and reasoning, otherwise we have beat this dead horse for WAY too long. |

The big part of JBs term so far I like. To me his weakness has been how ineffective he has been at TDL. Two years in a row no moves. That needs to change IMO - VANTEL
This last TDL and leading up to it was a horrible market and the the previous season we would have been buyers if anything so I'm glad he stood pat.

I liked SHink I watched him come up from juniors to AHL he has game and I did not know Granlund from a hole in the wall. For the record I don't think 5' 11" is an undersized forward. eg. Sidney Crosby ( DOnt go crazy I am only comparing height nothing more.) - thundachunk
There was something about his game / attitude / demeanour they didn't like, I have no idea what bothered them. I do know they never gave me any indication he was going to be a Canuck. I get the same feeling with Subban |

Clendenning trade and Sutter trade are the same trade.
People forget we gave up Bonino who everyone here disliked , Clendenning who still hasn't proved he is an NHLer and a second for Sutter and a third. I take that trade every time. - VANTEL
For the record on January 29, 2015, the Blackhawks traded Clendening to the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for Gustav Forstling. This is the one I was referring to not the one where we sent him to Pitts. |

There are plenty...do you know what they have in common? Speed and a good shot. Shink has neither |

Thats fair. The only excuse I had was personal had nothing to do with actual logic. |

I will argue that. He had both. |

Shink's numbers offensively in the AHL in Utica this past year were in large part due to Green giving Hunter the majority of the offensive zone draws (for his line) and being put on the PP. Green has always been critical of his two-way game (primarily his back-check) and his tendency to play a perimeter game. |

It seems to me as if they wanted him to play a certain way and it just wasn't his game. Kind of the same with Jensen. Really nobody is ever going to know. We can all speculate though. |

That Clendening trade still boggles my mind. "goes to the buffet table puts headcheese on his plate...Oh wait I don't like headcheese" At least he didn't hesitate to get rid of him, which to me is an open admission of him making a mistake and dealing with it. - thundachunk
True. Nothing worse than the hard headed GM's like Gillis/Nonis that blame their failures on the league changing the rules every second season.

Benning has also been very clear in his goal of becoming a younger, faster team.

So, by logic, trading the younger, faster Shinkaruk for the older, slower Granlund seems, well, strange.

Do you need speed and a good shot when you only play the PP? |

Shink had speed and a good shot. His two way game was a problem though. |

Not trying to be a Richard...but did you watch Shink in the AHL? He never sniped the puck..the vast majority of his goals where off of rebounds on the PP. he has a nice backhand in close but I don't think he would ever get to those areas against NHL competition. He doesn't use speed to generate offense off the wing, he needs to be set up. He has adequate speed. Adequate |

He is also trying to gather some players that are a bit older in the 22-28 range. |

21 vs 23... Ok you got me.
Again, I am not fighting on behalf of Benning here. I am simply stating his noted desire for strong, big, fast, young, and Responsible 2-way hockey players. His vision, which he has made public, fits exactly into the reasoning behind the Shinkaruk and Granlund trade. Can we please move on from this.. |

I watched Utica quite a bit. So if he needs to be set up then he can snipe? and now his speed is adequate? |

This Granlund guy, sounds like a dream! Big, fast, young, responsible! When will he play for the Canucks? |
