Are you sure about Matthews?
- twiztedmike

50+ points in his first season in the NHL. Seems pretty damn good to me.

Almost just as much as Eichel.

Its a pretty safe bet he'll be a good player. Plus, the fact that you're getting at least 2 quality players (Pretty safe to assume Strome will be decent), and the possibility of a 3rd, for 1 potentially (although a high potential of course) higher quality player is a pretty good trade still.

If we get Stamkos, I think this is a good trade to make.

matthews playing beside stamkos would be unreal.

i also just don't think it's a good message to send to the prospects in the organization. basically telling them they don't believe in them and that guys they didn't draft and develop will be taking their spots. imagine they did make that trade, and they kept strome with the leafs but sent marner back. don't think marner would enjoy that

Why can't they keep them both up.. idk how much better Mathews is then Strome. He probably is a better prospect but they both looked good at world juniors to me and that's really the only time I've watched them both play at the same level. I really like the idea of Mathews but that would be a tough deal to say no too. It's also not a great message to send to the vets. We had a chance to make our team better but decided we didn't want to upset some 20 year olds that are yet to force themselves into the nhl, many of whom never will..

strome is a year older and to be honest, he wasn't that great. matthews put up 7 goals and 11 points in 7 games. mcdavid had 3 goals and 11 points in 7 games as a 17 year old as well.

the vets know they are trying to do it right. if they don't buy into the plan, which is developing guys themselves, then they can go.

how would they manage to keep both up? as well as having domi in the top 6, nylander, kadri, and jvr as well. where would marner play? 3rd line? they don't want to keep him up to play 3rd line.

Mathews is closer in age to Strome then he is to Laine... also I wouldn't be suprised one bit to see Marner start on the third line next year. This isn't top 6 bottom 6 days in the NHL anymore.

Wow, Just read Simmons stuff on Lowry Derozan the last 3 game 1's

Absolutely abysmal. Love seeing really arrogant organizations get their ass handed to them.

Caps have what it takes to go all the way I think. Need some bounces and some good luck to go along with it but that's a good team.

i don't think leafs will keep him up if he isn't going to be playing top 6. and closer by a month. don't think that is a huge difference. if anything, just shows how much better matthews is than strome.

How's that show anything.. he's not a year old then Strome. If they were born in the exact same town they would have played hockey on the same team every single year up I'm pretty postive.. they would have been in the same age group all the way growing up. I could be wrong though. Mathews isn't a year older then Strome.. Mathews was two or three days away from being in last year's draft. Also idk I wouldn't be suprised to see A line with Marner Bozak with someone else as the third line at all or something along those lines. I think they will have 3 lines pretty split up

if matthews really is on eichel's level there's no chance the leafs will trade that pick should they win the lottery. zero chance.

I won't say zero chance... hell, the only untouchable in the league right now I think is McDavid. Everybody has a price, all you need is somebody to overpay.

Marner will win rookie of the year next year, on Stamkos wing.

when was the last time a solid #1 overall was traded before the draft? lindros? that only happened because he refused to play in quebec.

i'm sticking with my 0% though

Rick Nash? I kinda remember him being a big deal before the draft. Not on a Lindros level though.

Wow, that's a terrible first round, especially considering the class the following year.
