How the hell is asking someone to learn to speak english translate to racism? - the_eye
culturally insensitive at the very least. there's really no way to have a good conversation on this topic when people can't even recognize that though lol. |

Agreed. In that instance, the celebrities involved in the Oscars snub need to step up and do more than just causing a fuss in the media. And people of influence of other races (not just white) need to stand beside them in that. Only by promoting a united front on these issues will there actually be progress made.
The problem is that many of the social programs that are needed to really help to enable people to lift themselves out of poverty (healthcare and education predominantly) involve significant government spending, and are so often dismissed in the US as being "socialist" or "communist", rather than embraced as being humanitarian. - lumlums
We can blame the government, and they do deserve some, but there is zero level of self accountability and a growing sense of dangerous narcissism that is more to blame, from people of all races. So many fatherless kids, so many people who do nothing with their lives and want to be given everything, self entitlement. It's disgusting. As funny as Cartmans "(frank) you, I do what I want" line is, that ihas become the prevailing thought process. Call someone out for being a self- absorbed bumhole who negatively affects others lives and you are just a "hater". |

You aughta be lums.
Make us proud.. i just hope you got your education through a univeristy not run by the oil industry and that you are a true scientist.. but being from edmonton kinda makes me wonder.. im one of those tesla loving we-gotta-get-off-oil peeps.. - Arctic_AARDVARK
UofA does have lots of funding from oil, but much of it is focussed on renewal/regeneration/waste management.... and my project here in Cali is looking to use abundant, non-toxic elements (aluminium/silicon) for converting CO2 and other waste gasses into useable products.
And I would love a Tesla |

Im not sure if it was UofA or UofC, but one had students and faculty protest the oil companys that influence the cirriculum (idk how its spelled)..
Its not new info or anything, but lastnights episode of Vice on HBO focused on energy of the future... very intresting stuff.

Beer O Clock starts at 3 when the first playoff game starts. I'm sure we can all find something ridiculous to argue about shortly thereafter. |

That episode was great. I work in automotive and never understood how electricity could be considered a green energy when we were getting more than 60% of it from coal (far worse than oil will ever be). If those substations Tesla is working on become viable then the Saudis and the coal industry can choke on their "resources". |

I think that UofC gets much, much more investment... what with Calgary being the site of many of the corporate headquarters, and Edmonton being the relatively liberal centre of Alberta... |

Best of all are the lucky few who (a) own a tesla, and (b) generate much of their energy from solar panels.... not viable everywhere of course, but still... every little helps |

Not sure if you saw the episode, but that was part of the premise. Tesla has batteries capable of being storage units for solar energy, these battery panels in sequence could replace power plants. |

Yeah, the problem was that they had no way to store energy, the the Tesla wall battery solves that problem. Even the Saudis are getting out of oil... |

Solar is cheaper than any other form of electricy now . They are producing panels at a fraction of the original cost now. Teslas cost $35,000 now and even less after a rebate.. obviously factor in not buying gas and its definitly cheaper to own. |
