the scribble man is correct. Best Player available.

Personally I think go Forward. Gauthier or McLeod are the definition of the forwards Roy wants on his team

My pick would be McLeod if he is available, but I see Roy and Sakic going with Gauthier

There's no excuse for the stunt Drouin pulled, but it can be the case where both sides are in the wrong. Steve Yzerman has done a great job at assembling a team, but the management of players by both he and John Cooper once they get them has been mediocre at best. It's a huge reason why Stamkos isn't signed yet.

The NHL hates goals, yet they wonder why the ratings pale in comparison to other sports. Let's keep fixing things that aren't broken and ignore the things that are.

The coaches challenge has zero bearing on ratings one direction or another. Hockey is a bandwagon sport. Aside from a select few markets, people watch when their local team is good.

Then give the fans of the sport what they want and stop trying to grow the sport.

It's ridiculous.

Go back to the 2005 post lockout rules. Rotate the Winter Classic games and teams on NBC (nobody watches anyway).

Maybe giving the fans of the sport what they want will finally grow it.

I know I might be the only one but I have zero issue with the challenge, and never have. If they start blowing calls with it, then I will have an issue, but they're not. The calls have been largely correct. It's a classic case of the truth hurting.

I agree, but the Linesmen now have a crutch. They are letting everything go, knowing that they can be bailed out on a review if it is offsides.

They can no longer call a play offsides, knowing if they are wrong on that call, it can not be reviewed.

Because there's only 2 possible challenges a game, and if they're a bit looser with the calls then there are going to be more close ones not called that normally would've been. There are a lot of very close offside calls every game. It's just the nature of the game to get into the zone as quickly as possible, so you're going to have guys that try and get an edge and get in the zone before they're eligible to, knowing, that the linesmen are calling the game a bit looser and gambling that a coach won't challenge, and then once he does then they basically have free reign to keep doing it.

yandle fits second pair d men, you can make a case for first pair
stamkos of course can fit anywhere

I am not impressed with much other than them for UFA's

we are at a point where trades will need to be made to get our list of 50 signed players down a bit and with the plethora of 3rd/4th line players and 6/7 d men a few 2 or 3 for 1 trades will probably need to be made

- homiedclown

You can make a case for Yandle to be a top pair defenseman...
But you'd lose...
Bc he's not

He might still be the pp qb that Murray wants,
But he's just not good enough defensively for top pair duty

Signing him would be a mistake unless he'd agree to a 3/4 year deal, which is doubtful... But even if he would, you're talking over 6mil per
And for a "2nd pair" guy,
I just don't see how that makes sense?

The coaches are told whether to challenge an offside or not from upstairs. The only gamble would be if the challenge was already used.

I'm not gonna list them, but I'm not sure I could definitely name 60 better defenseman than Yandle. Certainly not using stats to back up my argument. I mean, he's the 2nd best on the Rangers behind McDonagh

Being able to challenge an offsides is bush league IMO, if you can challenge that, why can't you challenge face off alignment or line changes.

On Keith's goal, I think it was Shaw, he was clearly inside the face off dot and StL could make a case that Toews wasn't aligned properly for the face-off. Both should have resulted in the linesman not dropping the puck blowing the play dead as soon as the puck was dropped. Toews then should have been tossed out of the dot and someone else taking the face off.

Realistically, what is the difference between that and an offsides?

Defensively?
There's a reason that Yandle has been on the 3rd pair the majority of his time for the NYR
He's 2nd pair at best
And Staal is better than him, Girardi was but forgot how to play hockey this year
Kline is better defensively

Would u really wanna sign Yandle to a 7 year deal for 6mil + and have him as Risto's partner?
No freaking way IMO
I don't think he sucks or anything, & he's still really good offensively, but I don't think he's the right age or fit for us

If you have someone that can score and posses the puck like Yandle, then his defensive shortcomings really aren't all that bad. I wouldn't give him a 7 year deal, and I'm not sure he will get one.

People tend to exaggerate what FA's will get. Yes, some teams are stupid, but not everyone gets the max 7 year term

Sekera got 6
Martin got 4
Franson 2
Mike Green 3

Yandle will probably get 5-5.5 per year. It wouldn't surprise me in the least if we target him. Murray wants a PP QB

Do u really want a guy with "defensive shortcomings" on your top pair though?
I could live with it on the 2nd pair, but I don't want him out there against Crosby, Ovechkin, the triplets, etc on a regular basis

Also,
Do u really think the type of player Yandle is, is the correct type guy to pair with Risto?

Maybe I am overestimating what he'll get,
But I guess we'll see

I don't know, I mean he might be the best option out there.

Short of trading Sam Reinhart or winning the lottery, I don't see a team handing over the ideal partner for Risto.

I think you need 2 minute munching D men with offensive upsude. They don't have to play on the same pair. McCabe might end up with Risto long term
