Definitely. It wasn't a dirty play at all. Nothing to be mad at. Ovechkin is probably one of the stronger players in the NHL, Couturier has been a pretty fragile player, not a surprise he was injured.
- PLindbergh31

This basically the 4th time in his career he's missed games and I'm not sure which one of them indicates he is fragile. He's played in 93% of the Flyers games since he was drafted.

-Hit in the head by a puck in 11-12
-Hit in the head by a Remaldo in 15-16
-Leg injury, possibly from a blocked shot
-Shoulder injury from being crunched into the boards at an awkward angle

Also that time he missed zero games (or was it 1) when James Neal threw a flying blindside elbow at him, don't forget that.

I see what you did there.

Pretty perceptive to see that I posted an official injury status of a player.

If I had to guess with no trades next seasons defense:

Del Zotto
MacDonald
Schultz
Gostisbehere
Streit
Gudas
Alt - In Mannings role
Provorov

Not sure Manning is resigned.

Kind of why I feel a trade needs to happen in the offseason

Thoughts on Grossmann?

I do not vist the fancy stats pages, ever. Not one. I rely mostly on the eye test, but do find that the fancy stats so sometimes agree with what I see. He has, to me, just been plain bad. His decision making with the puck has regressed heavily since last year, and he's not offering enough defensively to make up for it. Just my take on him. If he was making $2.5M or so, then whatever, but he's not. I'd move his ASAP.
- jmatchett383

Yeah.

I would move him sooner then waiting for the TDL. He doesn't really get a shot through anymore. He seems slower then Schultz, yes I know he was never fast. And he is like Kimmo when Kimmo was having trouble keeping pucks in the zone and just looks to be done or pretty close.

5 on 5 scoring, or 5 on 5 scoring per 60?
- jmatchett383

Per 60.

I actually thought about maybe requiring Schenn depending on price.

The only FA defenseman that really interest me is Demers

He just sort of waves at pucks in the defensive zone and seems to panic now when he gets it. Doesn't get his shots through and has trouble keeping up.

Granted, he could have a bounce back year with a full offseason to recover, but I wouldn't bank on it.

Totally agree.

It just gives me the feel on Kimmo when he was at the end. Looked slower then usual, Offensive abilities have seemed to regress, can't really seem to keep up instinctively

Seems they like really, really like Manning. He might not end up making the team, but I have a hard time seeing them walking away from him in RFA.

Med's gone. Even if the Flyers wanted him back, I doubt he wants to finish what has been a really good career losing 50% of his playing time to Manning and AMac.

Streit... you just knew he was going to slow down severely at some point. It's kind of why GM's shouldn't be throwing long-term contracts at mid-30's dmen. He's gonna stick around b/c they need him in the room, and on that front, he's still doing ok. Luckily they aren't desperate for cap-space yet.

Gudas has been mostly terrific.

AMac they may have to wait until teams free up cap-space via the expansion draft to even move at 50%.

Fans want to do it. I'm sure Pittsburgh would have loved to bury Scuderi last year. All (most) teams have bad contracts. But the GMs/players don't want to allow it again.
- jmatchett383

Players I agree and maybe some owners but I would bet GM's and the owners to the big money teams would love to have the opportunity if necessary.

Absolutely, but the big owners have to cater to the smaller owners since their best interest is similar to the best interest of the league.

I don't know if he is needed that much in the room. And not sure his cap hit pays for just leadership. You could bring in a guy like Elias on a cheap 1 year deal like Jagr did and they could help with leadership as a respected veteran player.

Here's my timeline of the people in here:

~~~Prior to Game 1~~~
"Everything from here on out is icing on the cake! Let the young guys get experience. Flyers have been a hot team. We could potentially take this in 7! Even if we get swept, the future is bright and we have a ton of young talent on their way up. Hextall for President!"
~~~During Game 1~~~
"This is terrible. They need to turn it around quickly. Sit Jake. Sit Manning. Coots is hurt again. I never expected the Flyers to lose this game. It's unacceptable"

~~~After Game 1~~~
"What 30-goal scorers can we add to this team to make them a cup contender next year?"
~~~End Scene~~~

Christ. It's a best-of-7. Just let it play out. We weren't expected to beat the *Best Team in the NHL* and we lose 2-0, on away ice, after the refs decided to take over the game and make it a special-teams contest. Enjoy the series...

Not sure you can plug n' play leadership like that tho... even Messier, when he was traded to the Rangers, said that he had to carefully earn respect over time before he could start leader'ing in the same ways as before.

Streit's been here awhile... he's earned/won his place in the pack order.

New guy would basically have to start at/near square one.

Trading him is yet another on the long list of players poorly managed.
