meh. they played a decent game, but penalty trouble starting late in the 2nd, and losing couturier did them in, after failing to generate anything on 3 pp's.

gost was jittery. top line pretty invisible. jake has been poor since returning from injury by and large.

just didn't work hard enough in the caps zone. easy night for holtby. he had one difficult save in my opinion. the rest was right into him. didn't make him move, didn't get screens or tips or rebounds, no odd mans...just weak (frank)ing effort offensively.

wasted performance by mason. kinda' like game 7 vs. ny 2 years ago.

so....laughton?

i'm so over streit.

Took them long enough. G likes to sit in a rocking chair on that left wall. Then get it to the point, then get it back. Rock some more. Occasional pass to Jake who drives it for a shot or Schenn deflect. Schenn pops out and tries the Hartnell shot that he's scored like twice. Simmonds sits in front, but occasionally pops out to do his net play that teams have now completely shut down. Book is out.

I hate the permanent double screen personally, among other issues like not using Jake's side enough. It is nice for when shots get off, but when shots are having trouble generating, it just puts two guys in front doing nothing -- easy to defend. Schenn and Simmer should bump out more. Work behind the net (which the PP never ever does). Rotate players around. Perhaps in a couple years they go back to the 2 d man unit, but this umbrella is movie theater hot dog stale.

They don't worry about simmer when he pops out whatsover. There's your open man. The other teams love for him to handle the puck on the pp. Problem is besides g and Schenn their all one trick ponies. Jake always looking for redirect. Ghost looking for big shot. Simmonds wants a screen. They aren't dynamic enough

Flyers worked hard. They poured it out. Maybe they could've got to the front a bit more. Reminds me of the ranger series where it was shocking that it went 7 and didn't deserve to really

Hey, it's the most arrogant fan base in hockey. Do the Flyers have the Caps right where they want them yet?

I couldn't wait for the 2nd period to be over. Them when you think they would come out focused and recharged, wham, they take another penalty.

Just snowballed from there. I expected this to be a low scoring series, but the Flyers are going to have to eek out some 2-1 games. Or Mason has to steal a couple. Aside from the physicality, they bored me a bit tonight.

I seriously hate our PP1 structure. Simmonds will probably always sit in front, but Schenn can be a more dynamic player on it. He can go to the net, but go in and out. Move to the half wall himself, swing down behind, create confusion and hit someone cutting. And use Jake's spot more. The unit uses 2 people and 1/4 of the ice. It's a wonder more teams didn't start using this strategy sooner. So wtf is Joe Mullen doing? Credit to him, the PP was a monstrous success, but times change. Change with them. It's the definition of insanity right now, and opposing PK coaches lick their chops facing us. Some teams used to do this strategy, many didn't. Now, I swear, they all share the same playbook with each other.

Jake needs to be given more autonomy on the pp. Put him on pp2 and let him create havoc. Tell him to skate with it down below the goal line regularly and go hard wrap around for a rebound or slide a pass to the point...like regularly. Jake as a stationary piece is (frank)ing useless

Is getting shut out in game 1 something that happens to a "not your typical 8 seed" 41-win powerhouse like the Flyers?

hey none of that bad ju ju on account of an isles fan!

that game was rough for the flyers. first goal is just a bad break. had a hard time generating much pressure on holtby, but they really hung in there on the scoreboard all game.

flyers go through stretches where they struggle at even strength. they need to cash in on a powerplay or two when that happens. obvious i know.

You think the Flyers are a "powerhouse"? That's very kind of you, we all appreciate your support. Maybe you're not just a lame troll.

Anyway, come back when you win your series.

Sorry. If anything the Pens will get even more fired up because of that insulting gif.

Letang: Did you see what that Flyers fan posted on Hockeybuzz?

Crosby: Yeah, F that dude! (Sidney doesn't curse.)

Kessel: We should kill the Rangers for that!

The Pens: Yeah!

Kessel: And then get cheeseburgers and milkshakes!

No but your best players wanting to bolt for home first chance they get is typical of the powerhouse islanders.

is he hurt still you think? or just severely fragile confidence wise at the moment. every now and then i'll see a flash of his ridiculous ability to shield the puck. but it often doesnt lead to anything like it used to.

The Wild can have Tomas Vanek and I didn't realize AMAC was from Cherry Hill (or is it West Chester).

Hurt. His skating right now just obviously isn't the same, and that hurts the other parts of his game. And it probably nips away at his confidence. Early on in the season, when he struggled, he looked good, got his chances, but was bit by horrid luck and waning confidence.

As much as some neglect it, he was over a ppg pace in the 34 games or so before injury. He found his game again. Only for a LBI to happen. Now he's scoring at his early season rate while looking worse in terms of chances. Tough season. I remember reading that his injury might've been season ending if it wasn't for the race.

He's probably not 100%, but right now, few are. So that excuse doesn't really work. It seems to be a confidence thing, and the fact that he's getting a lot more focus now when teams play the Flyers.

The Flyers are far from stacked with offensive talent - lots of hardworking blue collar players - so it's easy for opposing teams to pick their targets to hound. And then you have the whole Jake/G dynamic, which is pretty much two assist-first players on the same line without a legit sniper trying to find a way to work through tough D and score some goals. The player mix is off. Still, Jake needs to work through it, make more happen when he's on the ice. Easier said than done, of course.
