He's a dynamic player and would be the best forward on the team. He would also give you a sniper. But I don't think you're getting him for $10M or lower.

I get it.

I mean I am not saying throw 11-12 million. I would still have some stipulations. Would have to be 10 or less for me.

I don't know.

Do they continue to produce after getting their money?

Also a lot of the UFA's are around the 28, 29 and above range. It's rare a 26 year old superstar hits FA.

I guess my thing is when talking free agency is that Stamkos isnt a must have. But when people say spend money on guys like Okposo or Lucic or Beodker I would rather then just pony up for the superstar if I spend money. If that makes sense. Also looking down the road I don't see player like Stamkos hitting the market. And future FA lists don't look promising.

- J35Bacher

That's fine. I'd probably rather have Stamkos than Lucic as well, when it comes to cap hit. But rather than either of those two options? I'd rather let the team grow and see if the next Lucic, Stamkos, or Okposo is in your farm system. Or maybe he's a college senior that's looking for an entry level contract.

Why force the issue in 2016 when you really don't have to do that until 2018, at the earliest? I just don't get it..... It's not about winning the off-season every year. They don't hand out trophies for that.

Aww, that's such a shame. You have no problem demanding a Y/N format, yet you refuse to play when it's turned around on you? That's OK. I don't really feel the need to manipulate sentences in my favor to have a discussion.

Sharp, Marchand, Oshie, Kane, Hornqvist are some of the few UFA's in 2017 and 2018.

- steelydan

So are Streit, Del Zotto, Schultz, Mason, Read, Umberger.

So if on the team that is money coming off the books.

If he was willing to sign for under $10M, I'd have to consider it.

That said, it's not happening.

Why do you think by signing a player it precludes me from finding another?

Different because it was a trade but the Sharks got a 26 year old Joe Thornton in 2005. But that didn't stop them from drafting and developing players like Couture, Wingels, Demers, Neito, Hertl, Tierney.

I don't know.

For some reason I don't think he is going to where most people assume. And if he wants to go to a team that can compete they will have a tough team fitting more then 10 million.

If all about the money then yes, it will be somewhere other then Philly. But if he wants to compete for title I think he'll take less.

I just got my bonus today and decided to pay off one of my student loans because the principal + interest was resulting in a ridiculous monthly payment. It feels good to get that monthly payment off of my plate. I think I'll reward myself for being so fiscally responsible. Any suggestions between a BMW or Mercedes?

See, it just sounds silly.....

Finding them isnt the problem...it is retaining them all and peaking at the right time

how good will Stamkos be when Provorov, Konecny, Sanheim, etc are in their primes?

If it's all about the money, he probably WON'T go to Toronto. If he wants to win (now), I'd go to Anaheim or Florida if I were him. If he wants to win later, and doesn't mind the area, he could go to Buffalo.

The Flyers have Giroux and Jake making 8M+, I believe.

The Penguins had Crosby and Malkin making 8M+. They decided to double down with Kessel. They also look like a team that is headed for the cup. The difference? Their window is closing. They can afford to hurt themselves in the future because they don't care about it; they care about today.

The Flyers, on the other hand, have literally just taken the screens out from storage and are starting to put them into the place. They haven't even flicked that annoying little lock on the top of the window.

You have to see that the Flyers can't afford Giroux, Jake, and Stamkos; right?

And how do you know they will have primes?

I am as high on them as everyone else. But they could not develop and just be AHL players.

How long has Edmonton been waiting for young player to take them to the promise land.

I worry about that one. I could see them dealing for his rights and then trying to sign him.

They can. Trades and buyouts are allowed to happen in the NHL per the CBA.

Official. I guess considering how bad it looked, could have been worse. Was thinking that would end his season.

Guys lets think straight here a bit. We made the playoffs ahead of schedule. I'm a huge flyers fan and want them to win and maybe they will. But let's sit back watch some playoff hockey and think of the maturing of the young players and look to the future. I imagine konecky and provy filling out this roster next year. Adding to it . Not subtracting or wishful trades.

LOL, come on. This is the type of thinking that lands teams in trouble. There's a salary cap. There's penalties for being short-sighted and flat out ignoring the logic behind a balanced budget (cap).

Ron Hextall: "Yeah man, F it. Let's get Stamkos. I know it doesn't work, financially in two years, but who cares! That's 'Future Hextall's' problem. NHL16 Wooooo"

Trades? Buyouts? These are not words that you should have in mind when OFFERING a contract. These are contingency plans for a scenario where things don't go the way you planned.

Means he could be back if the series goes 6 or 7. Tall order but time to solidify the second line in some other way. Adding Gagner on the right side is not the answer IMO.

I want to subtract.

Read, Streit, MacDonald, Umberger.

I hope you want to subtract because that makes the Flyers better.

okay then really what is the point of what youre saying? if they arent good then we re just as effed with Stamkos as we are without him.

We are talking about the Flyers best chance of being good and winning a stanley cup
