Breaking: Sources tell me Andrew Ladd is in route to STL and will be in the @NHLBlackhawks line-up tonight for Game 1 vs St Louis - DarthKane
Class act 100%, now THAT'S some serious commitment!
As if Mr. Ladd has no independent thought. - pdx2ord
Between playing with the Blackhawks (or even pro hockey in general) and his child, only one of those is still going to be around for him in 10+ years. Especially with a premie, I do not blame him for putting family before a game 1 on the road where his team is missing their best defender
He also probably figured he could get back in time to do both, and it appears that's going to be the case

As I always tell my employees, no matter what, family health situations etc. come first.
Q's response regarding Panik in case he has to play tonight:
“He’s got some skills. He’s good in the puck area, make plays, sees plays, he can be strong on the puck, makes some nice plays with it as well. So there’s upside, offensively,” Quenneville said. “The consistency of his game is the part we want to make sure is there because that’ll get him more ice time and quality as well.”
Why didn't he just say that Panik has to emulate Mash? Easy explanation.....
Even I'm surprised with decision to put him in over Wiese for game one...Weise has become a strong physical presence on the ice for the Hawks the past number of games. He's also generated some nice offense and scoring opportunities.
That being said, it's only game one. We'll see how it plays out
I'm shocked to see you on this side of the Ladd should/shouldn't play tonight debate... - EnzoD
I am not saying that he shouldn't play.
But if he decides that his wife and child being born is more important than a playoff game, I understand that.
I have 4 children. I can't imagine missing one of their births because of work. And I wouldn't think twice if my work was allowing me to miss to be there.
I know that Ladd working is important to fans, but his family is more important than what fans want.
Nope Carcus. Not in the least. These guys get paid in a different league than I do and it would sure as hell change my family's life for the better if I earned a better last contract for them by playing.
I did read that this is very premature, and if that's the case I will retract... but absent that I stand by my position. - DirkGraham
So you really believe that he should plan children around playoffs? And if a child was being born during the playoffs, he shouldn't be there with his wife?
This is looking at the situation only from one point of view. The fan.
Honestly, what he gets paid is irrelevant. And him missing a game isn't going to change the value of his next contract either.

ABSOLUTELY--
Full marks to Andrew Ladd for putting his family first-- AND to go the extra effort to get back to his team mates- for game time-- that is serious commitment
NOW-- how about a goal for baby and Momma! Ladd has earned it! Heck -- C'mon boys win it for the newborn and Momma!
since playoffs are the time for superstitions, I play bar trivia every Tuesday night and last night during the name that tune round one of the songs was Chelsea Dagger, and we were the only team to get the song and band correct. I'm taking it as a sign that we're gonna hear the song a lot tonight

History says that will happen if we look at previous Blackhawks mid-playoffs new Dads.

I'm assuming this means that his wife delivered the baby and everything is fine. If so, congrats to the Ladd family!
Secondly, the fact that he jumped on a plane and rushed back to join his teammates shows some awesome character on his part. A lesser teammate may have taken the lazy way out.
So kudos to him for being with his wife when needed, and also being there for his teammates too even though it couldn't have been an easy day for him.

Speaking of superstition, heard this song on the radio today... always pumps me up because the radio DJ's usually follow it up with "We are the Champions"... and if you look at the jacket bass guitarist John Deacon is wearing, well that just screams good vibes!
Crazy when you think about how injuries can completely ruin an entire season, send it right down the drain. All about timing, and sometimes the bad luck certain teams experience is unreal. This year seemed like it was Tampa Bay's year. All the stars had aligned. And yet here they are, with no Stamkos and no Stralman.
Just picture the horror of having to embark on a playoff run with no Toews and no Seabrook. You simply cannot overcome something like that. Horrible luck is all it comes down to. Really feel bad for the Lightning and their fans. Damn injuries...
If the Hawks can win the cup with Timonen in the lineup for that majority of the games, they can win a cup with Mash playing his 5-7 minutes up front. A lot like the role of Ben Eager in 2010, playing 6 minutes a game. He isn't there to do much other than be a large body and maybe keep someone honest.
Mashinter isn't gonna factor much into the outcome. I think real factors will be how healthy our returning forwards are and if the big guns can get blasting. I expect Kane/Panarin to get a decent amount of icetime and hopefully they will draw a few penalties to get a chance to make some of that magic.
I think the Hawks D will play okay, because without Keith they will actively look to step it up a bit.
The #1 biggest thing to look for is the line changes. Road game for the Hawks, and Q loves the match ups. It is likely that the Blues get a few odd man rushes on bad changes because the Hawks are gonna screw it up at some point try to get the right guys on the ice. Either that, or expect a too many men bench minor as things are going. - breadbag
Thanks for this. I looked back at Ben Eager's stats, and he played 3 games of the Nashville series, 5 of the 6 Vancouver games, all 4 against SJ, and all 6 against Philly. Average ice time might even be closer to 4 minutes in the finals against Philly.
My wife and I have three boys (all under 5 right now - sigh); our first was 4 weeks early and our third was about 10 weeks early. The first was in the NICU for about 2 weeks, the third for about 2 months. That 2 months was very stressful. Hopefully lady ladd and little ladd are doing well.

injuries are the league's great equalizer. come playoff time though, the injury has to be so severe like the Stamkos surgery to keep the player off the ice. hockey players are warriors and will attempt to play through almost anything
