Not too bad. Looks around 800 then. I can probably get the labour costs down from a family friend.

He'll command max term/dollars, so that's going to rule out a bunch of teams.

And just to finish off my afternoon of Dubas-bashing, here's an article on NHL.com:
The Los Angeles Kings will win the Stanley Cup because that is exactly what they are built to do.
For years general manager Dean Lombardi has sought out heavy, skilled forwards who can execute perfectly the possession game plan of coach Darryl Sutter. The Kings have known modest success in the regular season using this model, but the time for it to shine is the Stanley Cup Playoffs, because that is when it is most effective.
The only forward on the roster who is shorter than 6-foot-1 and weighs less than 195 pounds is Kris Versteeg. Everyone else up front is a beast, and that group is tough enough for an opponent to deal with for one game. But whichever defense corps crosses the Kings' path during the course of the playoffs should remain in your thoughts and prayers for having to face these forwards at least four times in a row.

Wait, I thought you didn't need size anymore in today's NHL? - Atomic Wedgie
There's more than one way to win a Stanley Cup.
Right now, we have a double dynasty, with Chicago winning their three cups one way, and Los Angeles winning two with the polar opposite method. Both methods look effective to me, but the Leafs look like they are emulating the Chicago one.

Max dollars is 20%, that's at least $14 million cap hit per.
If Stamkos wants that, they should decline and hope a division rival signs him, thereby cap bonking themselves for the next 7 years.

I agree. Stamkos has been dealing with health and injury issues, the last 3 years. Do we really want to go all in on a player that may have seen his better days? I, for one, want to continue down the road that the Leafs are on. Draft and develop players that can slide into leadership roles, on the hockey team. Knowing that Stamkos can play centre is good, but is he what we need at 1C? I'd rather have a player that can log big minutes and play in all situations. Stamkos is elite in scoring, but average defensively. It would be a waste to blow your cap on a player that isn't a sure thing. Stay the course and build from within, or use assets to make a trade that makes sense.

Problem is, like last year, it was a London guy that was rated in our slot position. It could very well happen again. Hope not!

True, but in the salary cap era, being a dynasty will be much harder than before. Players on winning clubs want raises, which means roster death earlier than when there was no cap.

I have a feeling 7 years 9.1 million per, front loaded as possible. |

I think that's the disciplined, and correct, way to go about it. Keep in mind though that it looks like Arizona's GM just got fired for doing exactly that, so ultimately, it all depends on how patient the ownership group is.

At a 9 per cap hit, you could start at 12 per in the front end, and 6 at the back. |

That was a problem?
And obviously a top three pick this year is ideal but if we get Tkachuk at 4, it's still a good pick. |

very different situations to me. the leafs have been aggressive and single minded in their rebuild. AZ just keeps puttering along the same path.
- all of the leafs free agents signed were brought in with the intention to be turned into draft picks. Maloney brought back his previous players with largely no intention to trade them.
- the leafs built a whole analytics team and player evaluation team to assist in player analysis. Maloney hired an analytics guy who he has largely ignored.
- the leafs have completely rebuilt the marlies as a stacked development team. AZ's affiliate Springfield is almost completely devoid of nhl prospects; just a complete disaster.
- the leafs fired claude loiselle on account of being a dumbass. Maloney hired loiselle.
just some examples, but i think there are a lot of valid reasons why Maloney is out of a job. |
