I'm not sure. Flyers played the caps hard this year. One thing is for sure is the flyers are ahead of schedule on rebuild. We haven't even seen our best prospects yet!!! It's gunna be a great future here in philly!!!

Meant nothing against Philly....Don't see any holes in Caps Roster is all......I'm sure Ovi is super motivated. I think Pens are the only hope in east against Caps...bin wrong many times before however. I love Sid vs Ovi in playoffs also.I agree Flyers future looks bright.

I think the Caps will run through the East. The Pens were looking good until Jeff Zatkoff became their game 1 starter. Now, they might not get a chance at the Caps.

Nah, if I didn't follow the Isles closely in the past week and a half, I'd think the same thing. It's more the ridiculousness of the Flyers' blogger picking his 90-point team over a team that had wrapped up the President's trophy sometime around New Years. And if the Isles were facing the Caps, I'd think they'd also be dead meat.

Todd Cordell blogs for the Devils. Bill Meltzer writes the flyers blogs. He didn't write this.

Is this a bad time to point out that a few years back, a Washington Capitals team had 121 points (thats 1 more than they had this year), had wrapped up the President's Trophy sometime around New Years, and then promptly went out and got beat by the eighth seed?

Gonna be tough to pull this one out.

Flyers aren't a typical 8 seed. Rough first quarter with a new head coach (adjusting from college) new system, etc but since December or January, I believe they've compiled the 4th best record in the east.

I think this will be a long series. I have a hard time believing the caps are just going to run roughshod over them.

This Caps team is clearly a lot better in net and on the blue line than that one was. Plus, Semin was way more of a chump than Kuznetsov is.

The Wild can say they aren't a typical 8 seed, either (new coach down the stretch). If the Bruins or Red Wings got the 8 their fans would say we're not typical 8 seeds as we still have the remnants of a cup winner. And most 8 seeds can point to a stretch of the season where they played well.

I have Caps in 7, Panthers in 6, Penguins in 6, Lightning in .. 7, just because of their injuries.

How serious are Tampa's injuries, outside of Stamkos and Stralman? I know Kucherov and Callahan were DTD but are they good to go now? anyone else?

Can't remember a sports figure dying and me walking around feeling a lump in my throat and a hole in my chest. If i feel this way I know the players on the team do and I bet they are chomping at the bit to get this weries under way. Feel like this could be one of thlse magic years. Emotion is powerful and can bring out the very best in sports

Maybe not roughshod, but if they play to their abilities, their depth should theoretically win out. The teams are more even than most people give the Flyers credit for, but the Caps are still the best team in the league.

Flyers' L3/L4 are gonna have to withstand some pretty tough matchups, and the Flyers' blueline will have to really really really overachieve to contain the Caps' attack.

Isn't Cordell a Devils blogger? Our blogger is Bill Meltzer, he didn't do this article. The fact that a long time division rival blogger picked us even says more about his prediction.

Now something can be said about wrapping up the Presidents trophy so early on, maybe they breezed to the post-season while the other team was scratching and clawing since the calendar flipped to 2016. One might say it's seen as an advantage to be in full playoff mode entering the post season while the other team was just going through the motions. One also might say that just getting into the playoffs is all you need, anything else can happen after that. You could also say that having the best goalie in terms of 5v5 sv% in 2016, in the whole league, as your starting backstop could be seen as an advantage, and we've all seen sub par teams get carried by a hot goaltender.

But I digress, seems pretty foolish to think an 8th seed who made it into the postseason on the second to last day will upset the Presidents Trophy winning Capitals in a 7 game series, after all.

That said, just call me a fool...

Its about as foolish as saying that a team who needed a shootout victory on the last day of the season could get all the way to Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Finals.... oh... wait... nevermind.
