Right after the trade deadline we made a bet that Buffalo would pick above Toronto in the draft. I picked Toronto he picked Buffalo. Loser has to change there avi for I think two months we set it for. I'd obviously like to lose this bet but if not, if he ever comes back on here I'll make sure I give him a nice avi...

He was acting real cocky about how the Sabres would be in the bottom 2 or 3 by the end of the year. I knew they wouldn't it was an easy win-win for me. All Toronto has to do is draft above Buffalo (doesn't mean we still can't be one of the three lottery selections) If we win lottery I'm happy if we lose lottery and so does Toronto I'll be happy as well.

Good to see you back. I bet we'll see a record # of bans on draft lottery day....and most of them will be us Yanks.

I'll always remember my first ban....Damn if those touchy Canadians can't take a Gordon Lightfoot joke! And I really like GL.

Begining of the year he was top ten in quite a few then fell off the face of the earth rather quickly.

Heres one I found that had him going 13th. While not top ten it's no where near the second rd.

With the kids size. I would be elated we could use our 3rds to move back up and grab him.

I'm really hoping this Dubois rise is legit. It would only benefit the Sabres. He out of the the top 8 or 9 is the one I want the least because he's not so much a skilled winger as he is a power forward/shut down center. Actually a lot of his description reminds me of another power forward first round pick taken here a few years ago.....

If Dubois goes ahead of Tkachuk, Chychrun and Juolevi that would leave us with one of

Nylander or Chychrun/Joulevi that would be a huge upgrade over Dubois or Sergachev

I say we go Laine if we win the lottery
I found this ....
One-third of the World Junior Champion Finnish teams top line. Already playing in the Finnish Elite League, he is a huge skilled wing whose on-ice instincts make him dangerous offensively. Combine his giant frame with a hungry compete level, solid hockey instincts, a long reach and his accurate and quick release and you see what scouts are excited about. He still needs to improve his boots, but the talent is there. He is an excellent puck possession player who can control the pace. At his 6' 4" size comes with terrific use of his reach and body to involve himself in the attack. Big guys with puck possession skills are difficult to find. He has a good head for reading the offensive zone attack, and has shown high level scoring touch that might lead to and even stronger upside down the road as he grows into his frame.

Matthews is the unquestionable #1. Keep that in mind.

Been away from the boards for a few days. I apologize if this was covered already.

After listening to TM's presser I came away with the feeling that he is going to be really tempted to go hog wild this summer and just go for it. As he said, he is going to have Sam and Jack on the cheap for two more years and that won't happen again. I am not advocating this and he probably doesn't know if it is even possible. It just seems as though the stars are aligning for the possibility of it happening.

We don't want it to look to fishy . 2 or 3 will fall in our favor. Just so nobody thinks the fix is in . Edmonton will get # 1 again as everyone will expect it.

Yes but we're so deep at Center, why not draft a natural winger ?
He can play both left and right wing
Maybe Puljujärvi ?

You trade the pick then and move back one or two spots, whoever is at 2-3 I'm sure would gladly give you a nice piece in return for Matthews.

I liked this quote….

“We don’t have to go out and sign a star and three role players because we’re short. We’re not short. I think we’re in good shape. I think our young guys are all going to take a step ahead next year. But we can be active. We can be creative. We can take on a contract in a trade. There are all kinds of options. A lot of teams don’t have all kinds of options, but we’re one of the teams that do.”

I feel like one of those college wingers might be a good for for us….may be cross our fingers and hope we land a legit top-pairing defenceman. I actually don't feel like we NEED to bug out for Stamkos. I'm not saying he wouldn't be a nice addition, i just think there's other options out there that would still improve or scoring at a much lower cost….

I want to draft day, but he was never in the top ten. I can't really recall he being mocked to go in the first.

He has been talked about for awhile since he was granted exceptional status in the OHL, but I think even in October he was projected as an early 2nd, and has fallen since.

Having said all that. I would still love to draft him.

- Mentalorgasm5

Before the season he was the 2nd best guy on the board by a lot of people. And by board I mean draft board.

You might be. I haven't seen anyone able to agree whether it was totally voided by the trade or not.

He's a bit of a beanpole and has to put some weight on, but he should be a goal scorer like Perry with the size of Getzlaf.
