I didn't see him play enough to know he was a diver. I saw Recchi play a lot and dive a lot and hated him as a player for it. I really don't know why you are having trouble grokking why I'd have no opinion on a guy I didn't see play a lot.
- bodiva88

I didn't see Bob Clarke play live, but it doesn't mean I don't have an opinion of him. Same goes for Mark Howe, Dave Schultz, Rick Tocchet (version 1), etc, basically any player before Lindros. It doesn't mean I haven't read about them, seen videos on them, and heard people talk about them to form the best opinion I can. I assumed that you have/had done the same. I understand that I was wrong, and that you have no opinions of NHL players before the early 90s.

However, I do not know what "grokking" is.

You lose St. Louis in the first round every year no matter what the format is.

You hate a guy who holds a Flyers record for most points in a season. I don't understand it. I consider him an all time great!

Gotta love the brilliance of this playoff setup.

1 plays 7, 2 plays 5, 3 plays 4 and... (drum roll)

6 plays 8.

NHL playoff structure sucks. Flat out sucks.

Just saw a Hockey Writers article (http://thehockeywriters.c...-pursuing-drake-caggiula/) saying that Buffalo was also in on him. He attended their prospect development camp in 2014. Either way, it sounds like he's taking a month to enjoy the National Championship title before he considers any offers.

I just wish they were playing Dallas so we could get another Hitchcock/Ruff soundbite.

At least they don't have "byes" or "play-in" games.

Yet.

Edit: Misuse of "quotes."

You just know that some "but we were so close!" 9th place fan bases would love that.

It's coming,

Once the NHL realizes how much money they can make on it, it will happen.

Couldn't agree more. I understand not seeding the teams 1-16, because of travel. But this new format sucks. The 1-8 in each conference was fine. Once again the NHL trying to fix something that isn't broken. i.e. tie games.

Serious. So dumb that 2nd and 3rd in each division play. Yes, 1-16 would be best, but not practical anymore, so 1-8 is the next best scenario.

Sorry, but a third straight year of Pitt-NYR is pretty boring.

The only thing not boring about it is at least one of them gets eliminated.

I thought the 1-8 format was fantastic. I also don't like the unbalanced conferences. 16 and 14 just so Detroit doesn't have to play in the West?? Meaning that the Flyers have an extra 2 teams in the East to surpass to get in?

Ed Snider left an unbelievable legacy and huge shoes to fill.

Bill, might you suggest a way to donate to his youth foundation in order to honor Mr. Snider?

I, actually, would like to suggest to have donation buckets/ boxes at WFC on Thursday, so that fans can honor the man by pitching in for his cause.

- missingmike

That's a great idea. You can donate directly at the Snider Hockey website. A bucket brigade is also a nice idea.

Absolutely. Makes things harder for an Eastern Conf. team to win the Stanley Cup. When you are playing in a Conf. with 16 teams opposed to 14, it's harder to make the playoffs, hence harder to win the Cup. Each Conference should have equal amount of teams. Geography be damned. That extra travel really crippled the Wings in the West didn't it? 4 Cups, and 20+ consecutive playoff appearances.

They'll say it hurt them financially.

NHL needs to add two more teams posthaste.

It will never happen, not in a bazillion years, but I would love to see the playoffs be 1-16 regardless of conference. The idea of having old time rivals meet in the Cup Finals just sounds so cool to my own ears.

Haha! Seattle makes sense. I can't see a professional sports team ever playing in Las Vegas.
