Stamkos is a pipe dream I believe. I don't think it's feasible to have Giroux, and Voracek at 8+, then spending another 10+ on Stamkos. The rest of the roster would be pretty thin with that much money allotted to 3 players. - PLindbergh31
Oh yeah for us he is, but when I commented him I meant I'm just excited to see if he hits the FA market and if/when he does, where he goes. Just hope a surprise team or two enters the convo and ts not just Stammer to Leafs so every leaf fan's wet dream comes true |

The expansion rules really determine what Hextall should do with him.
If his NMC is going to force the Flyers to protect him in a June, 2017 expansion draft then you have to buy him out this summer.
If his NMC doesn't count because his contract is expiring, but his cap hit counts towards the 25% requirement then he's worth keeping on the roster.
Honestly, I think this team would be just as good if not better with Umberger on the 4th line and Laughton and Raffl taking VdV's PK minutes. - Feanor
Is he able to waive his NMC? If so, the Flyers could ride out next year and not worry about expansion. |

With Datsyuk going to Russia someone wrote Detroit should trade Datsyuk's cap hit for next year and use the money to sign Stamkos.
How would they be able to find a taker to trade Datsyuk's cap hit though, didn't explain that part. |

I was staunchly in the camp that said Schenn can't get paid more than Couturier, but then he scored 59 points. So now I'd be OK with something like 5 years at $4.8m with maximum frontloading.
7, 5, 4.5, 4, 3.5 - Feanor
He's had a terrific shooting year tho... I'm not convinced he's a ~60pt player. |

Not entirely sure how'd they do that, but that doesn't mean I'd enjoy seeing it. I'd love the Leafs reaction to him going to Detroit instead. And on top of that, them not getting the #1 pick. That'd be pure gold. But from my understanding, Datsyuk isn't for sure heading home despite the reports. I read apprently he considered this last year, or before, and it was settled with a end of the season convo with him and that Datsyuk will honor this talk regardless for this summer |

His numbers sure don't show that he is a better player. Maybe a little more flashier but not as much grit. Schenn is a lot tougher than he gets credit for. |

Schenn can take the body and throughout the season has taken big hits. As well as plenty of sticks up high. Seems he's the one that gets it the most on our team actually. He also doesn't have questions over his character on or off the ice. |

With Voracek's contract kicking in next year, and Schenn getting paid, are the Flyers going to have enough money to add a guy who can put the puck in the net in free agency? I sure hope so. - PLindbergh31
I'm praying Vinny sticks to his word so that 2.5 (or whatever it is) is off the book. if I cannot move RJ with retaining the max amount I would buy him out.
I was looking at Washington's lineup trying to figure out how they can assemble that roster under the cap, esp with some of the contracts they gave the dmen. they don't have a single bad contract among the forwards and some great deals (Backstrom for one). |

They did have to give up Connor Carrick and a 2nd rounder to Toronto for them to take Laich's awful contract.

I think he can consistently be pretty darn close. He really looks like he turned a corner this season. Maybe it was because of his brother being traded. Who knows. |

is he on an over 35 contract? I didn't think he was. if he retires from the NHL wouldn't his cap hit just go away? if all of that nonsense is true about having to protect all players with NMCs prior to 6/30/17, his "retiring" this year would help them in that respect. |

ah thought he has signed before it was an over 35. Ouch. I never want to see the Flyers sign one of those again ever. too risky |

Agreed, unless they change the CBA to allow for career ending injuries. |

I would be interested in resigning Gagner at 1 year. BUt only if they were able to move Read. I don't love it but instead of money and years going to a Eriksson or Lucic I could live with Gagner - Cousins - Laughton as a 3rd line for a year.
Also I am one of the few that would go hard after Stamkos. I think you can fill your 3rd and 4th lines with cheaper, younger players. Flyers have a good amount of role ype players in the AHL that can handle tose minutes.

I 100% agree that we can't have both Gagner and Read. I really hope Hexy deals Read this offseason. you've been persistent with Stamkos, and I appreciate it, Bc I too would hop on Stamkos. Having said that, I do worry down the line. I feel like Simmonds would have to be traded at some point. As well as, what if our prospects don't translate well into the NHL as we expect them too? We'd be pretty screwed. But hey, if it can happen, I'll all for exploring that option. |

I understand it could be hard. But things like the cap could change. Also if you have to trade a guy like Simmonds in the future you just bring back good assets.
I just wouldn't be surprised if Hextall did go after him. Not many years superstar players hit the market. And he fits a need the Flyers have in a proven sniper. |
