I know they always will...
Just think it's dumb

I'd rather they just named an all-rookie team
3 forwards, 2 defensemen, 1 goalie

You'd still get some arguments
Like this year it would be Panarin, McDavid, & then u can make a case for who the 3rd should be (prob Eichel, but it's close)

I think it'd be better that way

That interesting idea.

I get the feeling there are a few that have that mind set.

Stamkos is available to the Sabres ? You do what ever you can to sign him. Last player we had of his caliber ? ?

You could argue Briere, but it was probably LaFontaine

That's the point everyone is really missing
Glad u brought that up

Positions are more for the defensive zone.
On offense, it's so fluid that all the forwards are constantly changing positions anyways.

- jdfitz77

Glad I'm not the only one that sees that. Similar to the so called #1-#2-#3-#4 lines.

Only difference is the amount of ice time the line should get. I would love 3 scoring threat lines and a line that shut the opposing top line down and can still score. Way waste time defending ? Best offence is more offense. Can't score if your defending.

Patty yes. he would be worth the 10m

Briere ? not more that 7m imo

Speaking of in their prime in todays game.

It's so far down on the list of things the NHL needs to change though

IMO, bigger nets should be #1
Other leagues would likely follow suit

The problem isn't just bigger equipment for goalies, the goalies themselves are much bigger. Goalies back in the day were smaller & agile. Now they're bigger & focus on positioning to take up as much of the net as possible.

The game is played differently now too.
MUCH more focus on defense.
Kinda why I hope Dallas & the Caps get to the Cup. Those teams tend to really push it offensively.

How many blocked shots are there now a days?
I heard Gretzky talking the other day & I think he said he hardly ever blocked a shot in his whole career.

Since we can change the way the game is really played...
It just makes sense to make the nets a LITTLE bigger.

Hockey is generally a lot more fun to watch when it's 5-4 instead of 2-1, especially for the general public
If they really wanna grow the game,
Scoring MUST go up

I think O'Reilly has the most value to our team as a center. I don't see why we couldn't just have Eichel/Stamkos/O'Reilly all play center on 3 scoring lines, we wouldn't HAVE to move one to the wing.

Danny was EXCEPTIONAL in the playoffs though
Up until he left Philly, he was the leading playoff scorer of all players post lockout
And his regular season were at least top20
He was kind of underrated IMO

We very well could
Line 1-3 could get pretty even amounts of regular strength icetime, then u group those guys together on the PP
Heck...
At the end of games when we need a goal, why couldn't we do a line of
O'Reilly-Eichel-Stamkos ?!

We put Drury & Briere together late in games.
Pitt does it with Crosby & Malkin...
Actually, most teams do something like this

Bigger nets is a possible and they have discussed it . 2" wider and 2" taller?
That's a big increase that you wouldn't even notice on TV but the players would.

Goalie equipment.. The need to slim it a bit. 200# goalie with 2sq yds of protection is a bit much. Safety would be #1 but some are crying that when its more about exposing their weakness.

I red that about Grets the other day.

Why don't they call penalties the way they should , Clutching and grabbing is up, but the players are so fast it would be hard to call everything . Just call more .

O'Reilly-Eichel-Stamkos would be insane lol. But I do think we're all getting ahead of ourselves with the Stamkos talk, already penciling him into our lineup.

Goalie here:

Make the nets bigger and you better add the second place holder to the scoreboards there will be a lot of double digit scoring games. With the deflections, speed of the puck and the passing...you want a hockey game to be 20-19? Sounds great but is that our game?

Like I said . The fans wouldn't notice but the players and goalies would . Even 1" wider and taller.

Probably the biggest example of what you're talking about of Iginla.
He played wing practically his entire career,
But he always took faceoffs for Calgary.
Haven't paid much attn to see if he was doing it after that, but he was the Flames #1 faceoffs guy while he was there.

Also...
Wasn't Tavares playing the wing the other night against us?
Seems to me that it's not just Tampa that's moving guys around to free them up a bit more offensively

I have no doubt that we'd be able to figure out some kind of lineup of Stamkos were to come here.

- jdfitz77

I wasn't paying that close attention. But all teams move guys around during the season and even during games. They move around on different lines and they play different positions, but for 90%-95% of the time they play one position. Eichel plays the point on the PP sometimes. Does that mean we should move him to defense? Of course not, that would be stupid. You play guys where they're most effective, bottom line. Which is why you see guys move around during games sometimes to get better matchups.

Watch jacks highlight goals for the season. He has a bunch from the left face off circle. I thought it was odd.

A lot of the Rags fans I know have this crazy delusion that not only are they going to beat Pitt...that they will beat the Caps as well...

no (frank)ing chance

There are so many injuries to four teams in the East and questions about if or when they will play, it is very difficult.

Also a goalie... slim down the pants and shoulder pads before you mess with the nets.
