My only problem with Kadri is he is going want near. 6 million a season and a long contract and that's a high price for second line centre and if just for say we get Austin and Stamkos well there just no need for him .

Yeah I don't think it's safe to say, but it would be nice to move up and grab Chychrun, Bean or Sergachev to add another d-man to the prospect pool.

Kadri, although I'm not a fan of his, is a real deal, bonafide NHLer. He alone is worth more than 5th pick.

Keep Kadri regardless of who we sign.

Move the rat to the wing if need be.

Every team needs a player like him.

He'll probably settle for 5.5 and thats more than fair. Leafs can afford that, but they can't afford to go into next season with only Bozak and Nylander.. Sign kadri and move Bozak. Even if they are lucky enough to land those two it doesnt mean Kadri's gotta go. Matthews can start on the wing. Or even Stamkos can play wing.

Leafs 2016 Draft Picks in Each Round
1st Round: between 1-4, between 21-30 (PIT)
2nd Round: 31, between 56,58-60 (WSH)
3rd Round: 61, 71 (NJD via PIT)
4th Round: 91, 100 (COL)
5th Round: 121
6th Round: 151, between 172-180 (STL)
7th Round: 181

Doubtful they pay the thirds for Bab and Lou this year.

- nbboy

Those 3rds will probably at the very far end of the maximum years they have as time extension. was it 2017-18, or 19? basically when the team is doing "better".

As for Matthews, there's an 80% chance the Leafs dont get him, so no need to talk fantasy there at the moment.

I doubt we're drafting any higher than #3, although Laine would be a great catch as well.

Edmonton has the oversized ironic horseshoe still stuck up their ass, they've had it for the past decade, they'll most likely jump ahead of the Leafs somehow lol.

Or Juolevi. No one in the NHL is going to know who's the better player between Tkatchuk and Juolevi more so than Hunter. I know some on this board will be unhappy if they pick a defenceman at 4, but I trust the Leafs management, so I'll be fine with whichever prospect they take.

Since Kadri was drafted in 2009 heres who was drafted 5th and who was projected to go 5th both NA and Europe.

selected 5th:

2009 B. Schenn
2010 Neiderrieter
2011 R. Strome
2012 Rielly
2013 Lindholm
2014 Dal Colle
2015 Hanifin

NA Europe

2009 Schroeder Erixon
2010 Fowler Rensfeldt
2011 Beaulieu Jaskin
2012 Rielly Hertl
2013 Monahan Wennberg
2014 Dal Colle Pastrnak
2015 Crouse Spacek

Kadri is better than 75% of these guys easy, and he was ranked 15th in NA by central scouting. People have wild expectations of undrafted prospects and automatically assume they will meet whatever expectations they dream up about them. If Tkatchuk was drafted 5th do you think he'll turn out to be better than Kadri? History says probably not. The truth is that Kadri was a very solid pick at 7. I know some people here are addicted to losing in a weird Stockholm syndrome type of way, like they don't deserve to win ever again. And thats why some would trade Kadri for the 5th overall, because it would set the team back due to having to develop a player who may never even become as good as Kadri anyways. The hate people have towards him really makes me wonder if it has nothing to do with his game, but other more ideological and sinister reasons.

just draft skill.. thats it.. if it happens to be PLD who the Leafs think is the 4th most skilled guy then i say take him.. Or maybe its Nyander.. for a defenseman to be drafted at 4 his skill would need to be off the charts..

Really looking forward to Florida vs Islanders. Think that series is going to be fun to watch. Kings vs Sharks should be a nightmare.

Wings vs Lightning should be hilarious

exactly.

throwing away either or both of Kadri and Bozak at this point would qualify as "poor asset management" primarily because both have experience and both will have some value if and when its determine they are redundant.

my guess is Kadri gets a 5x5 offer from Lou or thereabouts.

The huge benefit of moving both Kessel and Phaneuf's contracts was the elimination of the need to overpay up and coming young players. Do you think Rielly gets more money if Phaneuf is in Toronto? of course he does?

THe beauty of removing those players and their contracts was more then just removing them from the roster.

Hopefully Lou is focusing his attention between now and the draft and then FreeAgency is upon how to deal with Lupul's contract, he's already eliminated Robidas - and he'd really kill it if he can eliminate another hefty contract (anyone of Bernier/Michalek ...)

I'm really curious to see what Lou attempts to do with the goaltending. I can't imagine that he'll stands pat.

Hopefully Calgary or Carolina will take Bernier
I think Lupul is done
Michalek prob stays

Lou will pull the proverbial rabbit out of the hat and we will have a new starting goalie
