Boeser is going back for one more year.
Demko will be going to Utica before he comes to VAN (unless injury call up)
Sutter at 4.5 million as a 4th line center?
Our D is almost identical to what it is now, if not worse with Hamhuis not there.

That entire 4th line would be one of the most expensive in NHL history

I tend to think Boeser will turn pro. He won the championship and was the star of his team. Similar to Demko, nothing left to prove

Degree's could play a factor in all of this. My fiancee's family is family friends with a kid who was drafted by MIN and plays for the Michigan Wolverines named Nolan De Jong. He was a late round pick but ultimately knew that he was most likely going to drafted. His family and him decided that life after hockey (if the possibly of playing pro was even obtainable) was important which is why he chose the NCAA route. He was drafted by the Regina Pats of the WHL but ultimately decided he wanted a degree just in case. His younger brother Branden went the other route and was drafted by the Portland Winterhawks and is trying his luck without the post secondary. Either way, I think schooling is important to these kids

Me too. Nothing left to prove, a bunch of teammates leaving, a bunch of teammates might be joining his NHL team...
I normally give some doubt as education to some is very important, but he doesnt give me that vibe. Pre-marketing major doesnt sound overly serious...

WHL is not as risky as you suggest, just has less focus on education. For every year they have they get a year's scholarship to a Canadian university of their choice, the only catch is that once youre overage, you have a very short window to use it. Most guys go from their 20year old year and give the pro's a try, either in Europe, ECHL, AHL, etc. and when they decide its over, they have lost their scholarship

Cagguila and Stecher have one more year left each. Why wouldn't they stay and get their degree's after spending 3 years at the University.

God forbid they just get a student loan like the 85% of the rest of Uni students.

My tuition ran on average about 5k a year, it's not as though these bust out players have no opportunities, they simply return to becoming a 'normal' member of society.

Since Datsuk is retiring at the end of this years playoffs, Detroit will be held for 7Mill cap hit for 1 year. What if we trade Burrows for Datsuk contract and 2nd. We will have about 6 players on ELC next year on the team and we can afford a 3.5 Mill cap hit. We gain a 2nd this year that can be used at another D.

I am not suggesting it is more or less risky. There must be a reason kids choose to commit to colleges as opposed to CHL/USHL clubs. I have a feeling that both Demko and Boeser go back to one more year to their respective colleges.

Neither of them are staying. If somebody offered me a chance to pursue my dream and potentially make millions doing it I would have bailed on Uni after 3 years. It would actually be the easiest decision of my life. I think you over value education a little much. They can always go back to school but they may only get one shot at the NHL. Also, the example with your fiancées friend is a very different situation. Brock is a blue chip prospect, not a late round draft pick

You are very much correct.

It is the only example that I have really experienced first hand with talking to their family so I am very ignorant to the thought process of these kids and why they choose the routes that they do. I just sit here on the internet and envy the contracts that these damn 18/19 year old kids are being offered and weep a bit.

Yeah my buddy played 4 years in the dub and got a teaching degree out of it. Mind you it took him till he was 26 to graduate but he stuck with it and has the best job at his high school. PE and Social Studies.
