I think I made that sound wrong, Play with Eichel and co. or stay with the Rangers and have a chance at being exposed in waiver draft. I doubt he wants to play with an expansion team. Is that what you meant also?
- SABRES 89

Yea thats what i was thinking. We'll see if Murray goes for it.

True...
Depends who we still have
Moulson & Gorges make up about half of what we'd need to expose if they're still around
It shouldn't be an issue

This Kings vs Ducks game is GREAT!

- jdfitz77

I don't think players with NTC or NMC can be included in waiver draft.

I think we should bring back Chad Johnson, seems like a smart move.
- SABRES 89

Absolutely
I'd even be ok with a 2 year deal
No rush to bring up Ullmark

Plus, Johnson will have a higher salary for us to expose in the draft to help us not have to expose an Ennis, Kane, etc

Maybe we expose Bogosian?

If we trade for a partner for Risto, I'm keeping those 2 plus McCabe

It doesn't make sense bc then they'd have to expose someone like Theodore, and I just don't see that happening

Bieksa, Stoner, & 6 good defenseman under 25
They'll leave the old guys in protected
But it doesn't make sense for them to take a defenseman back in a deal
Young forward makes WAY more sense

Sorry if my last reply seemed harsh at all
National Beer Day, lol

Last I heard Anaheim was having issues with resigning Linholm and Vatanen because they were both having outstanding years and the cap space just isn't there to give them the money they want. So, my suggestion was for them to send us one of these guys than they can easily sign the other. Plus they'd be getting a great young defenseman in McCabe back as a replacement so it's kind of a wash for them. McCabe's contract is one they can easily handle too, and then they still get offensive assets from us.

I don't really think he wants to move Bogo, they really wanted him.

They are in decent shape with the cap. It will come down to whether they can get something good for Fowler IMO. If they can he's probably who they move

But then they'd protect McCabe & still have to expose Theodore
Why would they wanna do that?

It's not just that they're having trouble re-signing those guys...
It's also that they have way more than they can protect

So it makes sense to get back a forward which they then could protect

I was super leery of bringing Stamkos in before, mostly because of the cap implications. But I'm even more terrified of the idea now that he has blood clot issues. McCormick hasn't played in a year and a half. Timonen missed a ton of time and then hung around long enough to get his shot at a Cup and then called it quits. Dupuis retired because of blood clot issues. It could very well end up being a non-issue, but I think the chance it could be career threatening is much higher to be quite honest.
- HonkFortheGoose

Timonen had clots in his leg. He also had PEs in both lungs. Same with McCormick, calf and lungs. Dupuis was much the same. He actually played while on blood thinners for a while. Totally different to what Stamkos has.

gotta expose a certain amount of money don't we ? Ennis is 4.6 a year.
- SABRES 89

Yeah, the league seems pretty determined to not just let fourth liners and the matt moulsons of the world be whats available. Honestly i think this is incentive to use the pick ourselves. If we move the 10th overall for somebody like fowler, then we probably lose mccabe. Sure, we can expose moulson, ennis, and gorges to get to 25%, but we probably only protect 3d. Maybe pysyks still here and they have to choose, but i think murray moves him before then.

Bieksa, Kevin... Unprotected... Age

Fowler, Cam... Would like to protect, or trade. Signed to a nice contract & won't get the return of Lindholm or Vatenen

Stoner, Clayton... Unprotected... Age

Lindholm, Hampus... Definitely protected if not traded

Vatanen, Sami... Definitely protected if not traded

Manson, Josh... Has really played well this season, so they'd like to keep him. Could be the guy they lose bc they likely can't protect him

Despres, Simon... Same boat as Manson. He'll be unprotected, but they don't wanna lose him.

Theodore, Shea... Will figure out a way to protect him bc there's no way they'd risk losing him for nothing

Order of which they wanna keep guys (IMO)
Lindholm
Vatenen
Theodore
Fowler
Manson
Despres
Stoner
Bieksa

With the top 6 guys under 24 at the moment, it makes sense they'd trade one of the top guys for a top young forward bc they can only protect 3 or 4 of them

Also hasn't been decided yet if the League will allow teams to make trades with the expansion teams so that they won't take a particular guy from us

If I remember right,
We traded Grand Pierre to Nashville or Columbus so that they wouldn't snatch Biron from us (we protected Hasek)

Still a concern though
Although it sounds like it's not too serious & he'll recover just fine

Theodore is exempt. He's not a 3 year pro. This is only his first year pro. His ELC only kicked in this year.

They said very low chance of recurrence. Higher than the general public, but still very remote.

A few MLB pitchers have had the same thing as Stamkos. A repetitive stress injury is basically what it is. And they've come back strong. I can't think of the guys off the top of my head, but a pretty big name just went through it two years ago and came back fine.

Edit: Dillon Gee is the guy I was thinking of. He had a clot and was out the second half of a season and came back the next season and was arguably a bit better than before. His ERA went from 4.10 before to 3.62 after and a WHIP(walks and hits per innings pitched. The lower the better) from 1.25 to 1.28, so basically the same.

Might be easier to grab Nash then Hall, Rangers need to move money.

I look at blues, sharks, ducks, oliers and colorado for trade partners

Definitely not the Oilers
Not for one of their stud forwards anyways
They'd want a top pair defenseman in return, and we aren't trading Risto
Maybe for Yakupov if they'd take a 2nd & a depth defenseman like Franson or Gorges

I don't think they have seen enough yet from him but, I can't see Murray moving him. He had to be included in the deal with the Kings.
- SABRES 89

He was the only reason for the trade with the Kings.

McNabb and 2 first were not for #44

I'd take Yak for a 2d and Franson. Give ROR, Gionta, Ugly and Reinhart a chance to teach him what discipline looks like, and see if we can't harvest the upside.

It's a classic flip.
