too freaking many times. trust me, not defending not scoring, just saying Jake did come close. he also fired 2 completely wide
- nastyflyergirl

I hear you. I was so disgusted I totally forgot that he rang one off the post. Frustrating night all around. 9 games in 14 days, with 2 games on the West Coast is a brutal schedule no doubt about it. I'm confident they will win handily tonight. Watch the Bruins win in OT tonight. That would be the worst case right?

Not sure how Pittsburgh or the NYI play it, but if the Flyers need more than 2 points in the last 2 games, it could be an issue.

Shouldn't you be off researching the draft, particularly for a goalie to replace Price now his body is permanently broken?

Complaining about the schedule is a waste of time and makes one look like a whiner.

It is what it is.

Has anybody gone back and looked at how many points they missed out on during the "easy" parts of their schedule?

Heck, they missed out on 3 points in their first two games when they were fresh as daisies. lol

It's not just him either. All-around, I think our team is horrible with getting pucks onto the net whether they are shot directly at opponent or misses the net.

Every team is going through it. No excuses when they play the islanders who will have nothing to play for and will be playing their 5th in 7 days.

Wings made an adjustment keeping their dmen higher and running a littler interference to slow down our forecheck. That happens plenty. What will be the flyers adjustment on the pens?

"Gostisbehere has struggled a bit the last few weeks, which is common for rookies experiencing the marathon-like NHL regular season for the first time. He needs six points over the final three games to match Behn Wilson's franchise rookie defenseman season record of 49 points (set over 80 games in 1978-79)."

I don't watch every game, but in the ones I watched over the past four weeks, it looks like MacDonald is really dragging Ghost down with his passive style of play and they are just not a good pairing at even strength. From my perspective, Ghost played far better with Medvedev / Del Zotto / Manning at even strength.

It seems like none of the Flyers beat reporters will touch this one, but MacDonald-Ghost is a lousy pairing and Hakstol should split them up or bench MacDonald. I prefer the benching option, but I get that Medvedev is in the doghouse so that may not be possible.

I thought he tried to throw it around the boards but the pressure/hook caused him to throw it to the side of the net.
- nastyflyergirl

You could be right. I'm glad the Refs are in peak form for playoffs. Flyers have had back to back goals scored on them that should've resulted in power plays instead.

If the Penguins win tonight, and the Rags get either 1 point, or zero points, the Penguins lock up the # 2 seed I believe. Rendering Saturday's game meaningless.

Edit: Or maybe not.

They should be able to handle the Islanders if necessary. Unfortunately a win tonight, and a win against the NYI may not be enough.

I said after they blew a 2 goal lead with a minute left against the Jackets, watch them miss the playoffs by one point. Could you imagine?

Last two games have been rough. Let's see if they can put it behind them tonight. Need 2 points!

You don't just sit a key player. Yes, he's struggling. But he is still their best setup man after Giroux. The whole team was varying degrees of lousy the last two games except for the goaltender. Last Saturday, he looked close to being back to himself. All you can do is hope he makes some plays in these last few games.

Gagner and Laughton are downgrades on Voracek even at 70% or whatever he's playing at right now.

- bmeltzer

He needs to find another way to get it done Bc his power game is not working and he's just frustrating himself. The puck moving seemed better with gagner on that line. They need to simplify. They don't need a hobbled Jake doing his 1 on 2 bit every shift

That, plus the 1 (possibly 2) points lost in that 3-2 TML loss, were points that they just gave away.

Macdonald must be really dragging that 1st power play unit down with Ghost only having 1 power play assist over the last 10 games.

In reality he started skating backwards as the puck was being dumped in, something every defensemen in the league would do.
- Feanor

He was tentative. He started forward, hesitated, then retreated. He could have closed, maybe disrupted the play, and/or bodied Helm, who eventually scored the goal. It was a bad play. But the game certainly isn't on AMac.

Helm's Goal

Edit: And, of course, he didn't pick up Helm in front.

Or playing like poop against Yotes. List could go on for games we didn't show up and should have won to better our current position.

The entire top PP unit has struggled for a good while now, aside from the Ottawa game. That goes for Ghost, Giroux, Simmonds, and Schenn. Not sure that's a great barometer for comparison.

Amac is not dragging ghost down. I think he's just hitting one of those rookie walls.

Yes, but the Columbus and TML games were games we either had a lead in or were tied with under 30 seconds to go and gave away points. Games like the Edmonton shutout suck, but the ones that really stick out are the ones you give away late.
