He could have given us a tie or a win in Detroit last night if he had not coughed up the breakaway goal and he missed the net with glorious chances two or three times. He is handling the puck like a hand grenade. They all look shaky and disorganized. Hope they catch fire in the second.

Voracek may be dreadful right now, but he will be ok, but Simmonds is not a first line winger on a contending club. He has amazing flashy positives, great heart, and great hand-eye coordination, but lots of less flashy negatives: cannot pass unless someone is wide open to save his life. Extremely poor defensive instincts. Slow back-skater. Will never beat a guy one-on-one. Excessively emotional.

In general, I honestly don't see how on earth we are anywhere near contending in the near future. Unless Konecny is another Giroux. The defense may sharply improve, but I just don't see enough capable forward talent to be true contenders.

I have been pretty impressed by Couts' offensive development this year. It may not show up in the stats, but he is doing a lot of things that are not showing up on the sheet. Unfortunately, Raffl is not a top 6 guy, and his right-winger constantly keeps changing.
