There isn't a hotter team in the league right now than the Pens. Flyers need to stay calm and just execute plays. Make the Penguins work for every inch of ice.

what do you bumholes think of nova? I haven't been sober since yesterday around 3PM. Went out to the nova bars last night and got drunk as hell with my fellow novans.

MacDonald is still the same guy. He's good in his own end, adequate in the OZ and a nightmare in the NZ. Can be a very tentative player at times, especially in defending the transition game.

The NZ deficiencies still hurt his possession numbers, because he allows too many controlled entries and teams know to attack his side of the ice. He's also seeing favorable Zone starts and usage overall.

He's made some really good defensive plays of late, but I wonder how many of those can be traced back to a controlled entry allowed by MacDonald in the first place. It's obvious the coach trusts him more than Medvedev at this point, and there's some justification there.

To use Hak's parlance, AMac is more "reliable" than Medvedev -- I get it, even if I've always believed his positives outweighed the negatives. Though for a player known as safe, Mac sure finds a way to make a ghastly turnover or two per game.

His issue has never been coverage or d zone play, at which he is respectable; it's that, due to poor hockey sense, he spends all his time there. He is the antithesis to Hakstol's system...hence his AHL vacation. I know the stats are brutal, but even to those who don't care for them, I think the eye test backs it up. You just have to know what to look for. You're right: this isn't some brand spanking new AMac...it's the same one he's been for his entire career: an average skilled defenseman with low hockey IQ. It is the same AMac that fooled everyone, aided by questionable logic and questionable game watching, to get his 6 year deal. And history repeats itself. I do have confidence in management's assessment of the player, and that matters most. Unless Carchidi is the shadow GM.

Have a shot, but they won't shoot 71% again. Play good D and keep their bigs off the boards they got it. And don't try to run with em either.

I agree, even using the eye test, MacDonald is, at the very best, a third pair guy. He's made some ghastly turnovers, several miscues in terms of positioning and reading plays as well as the well documented NZ issues.

Thanks man.

Well, kjell samulesson is tall as (frank). Waiting to meet some others. I played against some of these guys when I still worked for NHS. Much less tiring watching vs playing.

Just chatted with Larry goodenough. Gotta say, awesome guy. Kept talking about being the best can you be, have fun, be an idiot from time to time. Awesome dude.

He'll forever be a victim of his contract. At 2 million per, he's a solid 3rd pair vet, but at 5 million per, he's an overpaid disaster.
