Top 3 teams in the division get automatic bids, the 2 wild card teams can be from either division or from the same division.

Teams 2 and 3 from the same division play each other. 1 plays wildcard. If both wild cards are in the other division then depending on the points that 1 gets(let's say they're first in the conference) they get the 2nd wildcard. So the only two teams left are 1 and the 1st wildcard. Here's a visual aid. Ottawa and Pittsburgh were the Wildcards.

Meh, I knew I'd be charging all day at work.

So i was upset to see that Fasching and Nelson were not on the most recent NHL 16 update so i created them (realistically) and had Hudson Fasching (Fasth in the game ) put him on a line with Jack and Sam and he had 2 goals in the opener vs Ottawa.

There's 2 separate brackets in each conference
There's no 1-8 seeds any more

So it's either...

1 Dallas or St Louis
WC Minnesota or Nashville
*most likely Minnesota. This division winner will have more points than LA/Anaheim, so they'll play the worse of the 2 wild cards

2 StLouis or Dallas
3 Chicago


1 Anaheim or LA
WC Nashville or Minnesota

2 LA or Anaheim
3 San Jose

They did it a couple years ago to promote division rivalries more
It coincided with the reg season schedule change where each team plays everyone home & away at least once. This took away the number of times u played your division teams.
