Settle down. They would still have to win a lottery regardless of where they finish and they can still move up if they slip down.
The lottery will dictate where the leafs pick. Not the standings. Considering they had an 80% chance of not picking first even if they finished last makes me wonder why people are so upset. - systemtool
Because they need a top 4 pick
Not difficult |

Odds are much better if they're last than anywhere else. They purposely pissed away a whole season and can't even do that properly. They're in a pretty good spot going forward regardless of where they pick this year but there was no reason to burn entry level years and there's no reason not to be giving themselves the best shot at Mathews. |

I want to see their reactions when the Leafs win every game, and the top three spots are won by teams with the lowest odds.
If they're upset with a 6th-8th pick, imagine what they'll do if it's not even in the top-10! |

I think it's very important our youth learns how to lose games. I'm upset these young kids come up to the NHL and actually prove that they can play there. I think we need to have a poopter prospect system so that when youth get promoted in future we can continue to lose. It doesn't seem to have affected the Oilers any. Winning games is not the goal in the NHL, it's the taking part that counts |

We're 1 win away from the 5th overall pick which could turn into the 8th pick
I like that they are winning, but maybe they could hold off for 6 more games! |

In other news, what a complete bullpoop hit by Virtanen today. He needs to be suspended for at least 10 for that bullpoop. - lumlums

In reality... They really played awesome yesterday!
I really think we are on the right path for the first time in 50 years!
Imagine this team with JVR back, whoever they draft and if they get Stamkos, Vesey, and Zaitsev! |

I would like to imagine this team getting to draft an actual franchise player.
Not throw away an entire season only to win meaningless games in the garbage-time glory run we have seen so often.
Easy to picture them drafting 5 or 6 now and possible it is even worse.

Kids shouldn't be here right now. All they're doing is using an entry level year on a few on the kids and making their draft spot worse. 2 extra wins could mean 6 spots in the draft. The Nylander's and Brown's should have been replaced with guys like Carrick. Heck if they were going to burn a year of Nylanders deal why not have him here months ago if they're trying to win games?

Shanahan: Hey Babs, got a quick sec in my office?
Babcock: Sure, what's up?
Shanahan: Mike, we are working really hard to build a winner here in Toronto. We started with hiring you, brought in Lou, got rid of Kessel and Phaneuf, tampered with Vesey, tampered with Stamkos and really planned on getting a franchise player in the draft.
Babcock: Ok, what's your point though?
Shanahan: Well all this winning is putting the last part of the plan in jeopardy. Any chance you could stop it.
Babcock: (frank) RIGHT OFF. Walks away!

I don't even think we should spent the money on Stammer. The team is growing and maturing just fine. Beating some of the best teams in the league down the stretch. - bixll

Seems like it was always the plan Mike, Brendan, Lou and Kyle had in mind and I trust them 100%. I can't think of one move they've made I didn't think was good |

Drais wasn't drafted with a first, and is better than at least a couple of Edmonton's first overalls... I'd like Matthews but even in last there's a slim chance. |

It's different when it's our prospects in the system vs. our "core" suddenly turning it on when the games mean nothing.
Plus, rewarding the kids with NHL games does two things:
1. Shows them what it takes to play in the league so they train that much harder in the off-season.
2. Let's management know what they have/have not in players; as Babcock says, "who's a real NHLer and who's not".
You can't do that in pre-season or in a 3-4 game stint, because a lot of that is nervous energy and adrenaline and can distort the optics on the player's real ability.
