I have watched Sanheim a bunch of times now and he is obviously a very good a offensive prospect but make no mistake he is also very soft. With Provy and Ghost in the fold I just see him as the one to dangle in a trade to improve up front. If the Flyers go after and lose out on Stamkos then turning to Edmonton may make the most sense, I think any of Eberle, Hall or RNH would do very well in Philly
- Ross77

I'm not saying Sanheim isn't the one you dangle, just that I'd rather get a different player than RNH if we move him.

Does anyone else think Medvedev would be more useful in the lineup than AMac? Dressing Medey and putting him with Gudas, then pairing up Manning with Ghost? The numbers may not say it, but watching AMac for a full game, he isn't helping the team.

Dont worry...the numbers say it

Just not a fan of RNH for some reason. And if the deal included Sanheim I would rather want Hall.

But if I want to add skill next season I would rather just use money and try to get Stamkos over moving assets.

Not a fan either. It's amazing to me how the oilers have strait up wrecked some young players by rushing them(dubnyk has recovered). Rnh, pajarvi, dubnyk, yakupov. They'll prob get the first pick this summer as well.

I don't think hexy will trade our young players for underachieving young players on other teams.

I don't know, Perron was very "meh" at best last year. 12 goals in 43 games for a first rounder isn't all that great.
- jmatchett383

Very inconsistent... I don't see him doing well in the playoffs for Anaheim if his past streaks of play is any sign. He is due to completely disappear for awhile.

Shultz has looked quite solid with the Pens since leaving Edmonton.

Just saying, their team might be utter cancer.

- Guile

he would look just as bad in a larger role or with less talent around him...he is and probably always will be a negative possession player

Why does he have to be more then a mid pairing ceiling? Not the Pens fault Edmonton massively overpayed for him.

And that's the thing.

I am not against moving Sanheim but it would have to be from something better. RNH doesn't do it for me.

Agree.

He was overhyped and placed in a role to big from him. Almost what they tried to do with Del Zotto. Now I credit Del Zotto fro changing his game and becoming a very good all around player. To me Schultz is best used as a 3rd pairing, PP type dman. He is not an all situations minutes eater like Oilers pegged him to be.

Not their fault, but it drives up his Q.O. price if the Pens want to retain him (which I think they should).

You can be good, and only have a ceiling of the mid pair.

Are you saying if you cannot become a top pairing D man, you are not good?

I think the Pens will throw him a deal that near mirrors what we gave Ian Cole. Its the near same sample size as Ian did, and the same overachieving for what the team he was traded from made him sound like.

I could be wrong, but I think hexy will execute this just like he helped do in la. Once he's got a handle on all of the talent and the team is generally at the point of contending, he'll flip what he considers extra assets, to augment the lineup and fill holes. That might be sanheim, but he might also be an integral part of the d corp. it'll be similar to the Shenn and simmer trade along with the acquisition of carts.

Stop trying to Pittsburgh me. You implied that Schultz being better on the Pens was evidence that the Oilers are just cancer that ruin players...where as I implied that simply a smaller role and different usage is likely the reason (backed up by stats)

Not sure where you decided to get on about overpayment and ceilings

They need to offer him $2.145M to qualify him. I think it's fair, and I think a one-year deal would be best for both sides.

Any reason to believe he played a large part in those trades? I'd assume, unless told otherwise, you would attribute assistant GM's with doing some research, scouting, etc.

He probably did because you didn't bring up usage in that post and asked it in sort of a jackassy way. Guile's a pretty nice and knowledgeable guy.

Far too early in the week to Pittsburgh you. Edmonton had him in their bottom pairing for a time too, but they just crippled him by that point.

Edmonton is retaining half his salary... its actually a bit over 4 mil a year to retain him in the RFA method.

edit: But the Ian Cole deal would mirror the amount you are saying. I hope Shultz doesn't jump at the highest offer again.
