I hope we can trade Read this offseason. From my understanding, Leier can replace what he brings. I don't like Vdv either so I wouldn't mind him not being in the picture. I have mixed feelings about bringing White back. I like him and what he contributes, just not sure if it's needed or if a young guy can bring a similar game. Hope some of these trades do happen tho to create space for young guys and to also cut some salary back - arichardson22
White's strengths are "sandpaper (hitting and fighting), winning faceoffs, and being hit with the puck. That's really about it. If we can find a player with actual passing/shooting skills, I'd rather have that player on the 2 PP unit. |

I don't understand a mindset that isn't SCF or bust. I've been a Pens fan too long. - Guile
The Pens and the Flyers have 2 very different expectations based around team composition, age of key players, player salary, farm system and draft picks that have been traded away with a win now mentality.
The Flyers are fortunate to be in a playoff race and it's fun for us fans; the Pens, up until a week or two ago, were on the bubble as opposed to leading the division, and that's unacceptable for a team with that much talent.
The Pens are definitely a Stanley Cup Finals or bust squad, and will be for the next several seasons until that window shrinks with age; the Flyers are a Wooohoo! Playoffs! squad who have no expectations and can go out there and see what sort of damage they can do. Assuming they make it, of course. |

Very true, and not talking poop here (maybe a little bit), but for that squad to only have 1 Cup in Crosby's tenure, with guys like Malkin , Fluery, Letang, I consider that a severe underachievement. Yeah they haven't really had the depth in past years to roll 4 strong lines, but that's enough star power to carry them pretty far. |

Yep, and I feel just terrible about it. It's awful. A crying shame is what it is. A crying shame. |

Since the Cup run, it's either been key injuries to Letang/Malkin/Crosby or a MAF meltdown that's kept them back. Even last year, Malkin was MAYBE at 50% health and Ben Lovejoy was playing on their top D pair. Not an excuse, but a reason. |

Saw something interesting recently that the Flyers have interest in Drake Caggiula as a FA and Mark Jankowski if he makes it to Aug 15.
Both can play LW. Caggiula can fly and Jankoswki has good size. Could be nice low risk moves. - J35Bacher
Caggiula has some of the best mits in NCAA. His stick handling is really insane. |

Yeah.
Just thought it was interesting because both guys interest me. Was hoping maybe having Hakstol could be an enticer to Caggiula. |

We now get to humor getting Yakupov to replace Kunitz (More likely give Sid Hags and Malkin a fellow Russian) since he wants out of Edmonton.
More asset shipping out for players!

during my years there it was funny to hear the token excuse each year...it was seriously like everyone got together and decided on what they were going to blame each year on
Fleury was too tired the year we made them look like clowns |

I never even heard the tired excuse... he had a collaspe, and then Volkuun had to bail him out the year after.
Then they got him his own sports shrink and I don't think anyone would claim hes been bad the last two seasons.
But its not like you can pretend the injuries didn't exist ~_~ |

So.... should you guys lose to the Jets, would that be a "throw up the white flag and call it a season" moment for you guys after the Arizona loss? - Guile
How does that question even make sense to you?
If they lose tonight then the most they can be out of the playoffs is 2 points back..so why would it be a white flag moment? |

This would be a great plan for hexy to address the lw. Isn't the issue that every team can make him an offer to a certain max, and he just decides where he'd go? Maybe hexy could sell him on the fact that there arent a lot of lw ahead of him on the depth chart. I wouldn't be surprised if we aggressively pursued him. Are these guys at North Dakota? I thought I read one of them was, and if so I'm sure our hc could have some pull. |

Who said anything about pretending injuries dont exist? Injuries happen...Flyers lost to the devils after that same series with the Pens and Giroux needed surgery. It takes more than being a good team to win the cup
|

just my opinion but I think a Nugent-Hopkins for Sanheim and Laughton helps both teams and is fair. |

Can't wait for the Blackhawks to get big injuries during a cup run, or the week before the postseason |

Injuries occur every year. It's why depth is what separates players and pretenders.
Flyers lost Couturier, Giroux, and Voracek at different junctures this season. |
