Thanks Bill. I agree with 77's comments above. If it was a tighter called game, and more consistently played, some of the "chippy" play, and questionable calls may have gone by the wayside. However, I do question the last Yotes goal, and how Mase was bumped. Domi seemed to take advantage of being checked, and continued his movement into Mason. I also, thought that White being ejected was odd. White went over to see if he needed to jump in, but didn't actually participate with the scrum; from what I saw.
Hope G is ok, and that he gets back to the game. Coots seemed to lose some energy towards the end of the game, with his turnovers, and his follow up play. I wonder if Hak used him a little too much.
Anyway, a tough loss, and a missed opportunity. That just means the team has to work that much harder the next games. As mentioned, the team never likes to make it easy on themselves, or the coaches, or the fans...

I thought about that play some more, and as someone suggested, a smart play there would have been to shake the mask right off his head. Not sure if it's a penalty for delay of game or not but he couldn't see or make the save.

I don't understand the 'poop team' narrative when everyone talks about the Yotes. They've taken some big scalps this season so far & have a good mix of youth & experience & their goalie can be elite. No disgrace getting beaten by them (they beat us as well! ), now the Leafs on the other hand. I still think you guys will be playing playoff hockey!
- Aussiepenguin

The penguins beat the Yotes way back in Nov. 2-1 but the Pens spanked the Yotes 6-0 more recently.
http://espn.go.com/nhl/recap?gameId=400815803

Having said that, the Yotes have been playing very competitive hockey as of late, Keyed by Smith, who has been nearly impenetrable since coming back from his lengthy injury rehab in March.

Smith since returning in March:
GAA SA GA SV% SO
1.01 35 34 .971 0
2.00 29 27 .931 0
2.01 35 33 .943 0
1.00 28 27 .964 0
0.00 44 44 1.000 1

Flyers had some chances but the Yotes are no easy out right now.

Good thing is Detroit didn't gain any ground and the Flyers still have a game in hand on them.

Detroit is reeling right now and their tending is a little suspect. Boston won as well, so even more pressure on them. We've got to avoid the first game after a road trip stinker vs Winnipeg. If we get right back at it and string some good efforts together. I think we can make it here.

Good analysis. I would also add that I thought the Flyers played well enough to win and on most nights that would be the case. If they continue to outplay team like this for the rest of the season I think they will find themselves playing in the POs.

Voracek's cap hit nearly doubles next year. 10 goals ain't going to cut the mustard. 20 goals and 65+ points minimum to justify contract.-Plindbergh31

That's not the only contract... But of course the spin doctors and apologists will inform us how wrong we are to criticize a team with this big of a payroll that can't make the playoffs.

Apparently you have to do what Price and Holtby do and immediately take off your mask in order to sell it to the refs to get the play blown dead. That's what it's going to start coming down to on plays like this. Similar to the way players still throw their head back and immediately grab their face on a light high stick that grazes them to get the penalty called.

Either way, I don't blame the loss on that goal. Arizona has played better of late but there's no excuse for losing to that team this time of the year.

- five4fighting10

I think this is exactly what you have to do. Throw the helmet off, knock the net out of place. Do what you have to do. If you can't see, you can't see. I'm sorry but Mason didn't react instantly. It's just my opinion.

I don't know how much of a fluke that goal by Stone was. I understand Mason was bumped and his mask needed to be adjusted but you play through it. You play until the whistle blows. When guys like Mason and even Simmonds lose focus for one second because they made an error in judgement in the dying monents of a period, they have to be held accountable for the mistake and learn from it.
- SuperSchennBros

Mason said after the game that the mask was blocking his vision and he couldn't see anything.

So unless he's a (frank)ing Jedi or a wizard or something, it was a fluke goal. If you want to say he should have flopped or threw the mask off, fine. But he also has no idea where the puck is, how is he to know its not flying at his face at 90 MPH?

Some day the flyers will learn that paying someone like he's a super star doesn't make him a superstar.

This is what I suggested last night. It's happened to me before and it's not as easy to just play though it as you might think. Now he could have gone into his butterfly and just hoped it would hit him but that's not your natural instinct. It happens. Bad luck in a way.
- Hextall271

I just feel Mason should be open to a little criticism because I feel like he was hoping the end of the period buzzer was going to save him.

Did he react instantly after he was bumped to fix his mask is my question to you. When a person can't see, you know right away when you've been blinded.

One of our own guys pushed a player into him. I treat this as no differently then a goaltender interference not being called because one of our own were at fault.

Maybe, but I blame the inability of the flyers first PP line to score more than I blame the goalie for not reacting fast enough after getting his masked knocked into his line of sight.

Exactly. I've had guys and a puck hit my mask where it got turned or the strap broke and I couldn't see. You're wearing gloves and carrying a stick so it's hard to adjust.i don't think he'd lie about it. He couldn't see and couldn't stop the puck. Simple as that. I think focus should be more on the fact we couldn't beat smith for more than 1. and our pp looked sad.

Look,

Last night I was at an Easter gathering/Funeral with a room filled with Wings, Habs and Wings fans who were nice enough to watch the game with me. We all saw the reply. 9 out of 10 at least in the room were impartial. Not one of them felt like Philly had an argument.

I see what you're saying. I believe what mase is saying and think he's been so solid of late that we can give him the benefit of the doubt.

It wasn't you, but I was really surprised that some blamed him for the Cbj loss. Haha.

Not saying it should be called interference. Just saying it is a fluke situation, that resulted in a fluke goal.

Why we didn't have an argument was that manning decided to push Domi into mase IMO. I do bet that next time mase might just throw his mask off, but then you might get a slapshot in the face.

Sure. I thought the Flyers were as good last night as the shot totals indicate. I also feel like we got unlucky at some moments in the game. I also felt like Mason didn't react like a guy completely blinded of visual. I felt like he took his time to adjust his mask.

I'm not asking Mason to be traded, the result sucks. I just side with the refs and the league with the call on the ice.
