Lol Kessel is streaky! I'm fine with him. Always have been.
Now...Bonino with 5 points? NICE! - Barnaby36

Hope you get your wish soon, dude! What a game! Kessel's pass to Haglin was so straight arrow saucer through a sea of sticks! I jumped out of my chair and spilled my popcorn. You got to love this team. |

Their org keeps issuing statements that they're behind him and it's not his fault. Like I understand the people that think the Habs are just saying the right things, but they also don't have to go out of their way to make these statements |

Maybe the idea was that the sure-fire way to get the players to play listless hockey was to tell them they had another year of Therien to look forward to.
And it's working, because their lottery slot is getting better every day.
I have been so totally unimpressed with Detroit every time I see them. Mrazek was playing above his ability early in the season and they Lalimed their way to success, but that's not a good team. |

I always just laugh at the people that try to knock Crosby by saying he gets coaches fired. Edzo doesn't count and Therien is just so clearly a bad coach. Johnston was a terrible hire. |

I'll be able to catch a few games this year, in Pitt, Philly, and DC. |

Johnston really was a WTF hire. Sid should be considered a good captain if he got him fired. (although I don't believe he intentionally tried to get him fired)

It's midnight and I still haven't heard jack from Samuel. Can we start to admit that Kessel is earning his paycheck down this stretch, or are we still going to perpetuate the same narratives? |

The guy couldn't bury a goal to save his life earlier, however he's been consistently played well. Not too worried about what he's doing now, it's the playoffs where they'll need him to score |

Kessel has definitely started to play better, any correlation to sans Geno . . . We knew he clicked at one point this season with Bonino, but today was an absolute explosion, wow!
Carl Hagelin and Trevor Daley have been God sends to this team! I cant really think of any other way to put it. The coaching change was an obvious turning point, but you need players to execute what you want to implement and these 2 are exactly what this team needed! Bravo Zulu GMJR! |

People are always saying "trade Daley at the draft"
I'm interested in knowing what we could resign him for |

I'm hoping those people are only saying that due to the cap hit. Hopefully Scuds retires & Daleys hit appears lower as everyone counts the salary retained as Daleys due to the trade even though we have Scuds until his contract is up of he retires.
If you find players that have chemistry you hold onto them - no matter if he's early 30's. Who knows what contract he signs after next season but at 33 he probably still has another 3/4 years of good hockey. Regardless there are 3 D men to replace after this & next year - Lovejob, Shultz & Daley, so do you risk buying an unknown or pay a known quantity, 'maybe' a little more??? |

I hope the pens learned their lesson signing 30 somethings. If they're resigning Daley when his contract expires I'd do it on 1/2 year deals for not much money |

I hear what you are saying. I don't know how good Daley is nor what type of longevity his type of player has. I do know going forward we have Tanger, Maatta, Dumo, Daley & Cole, then Pouliot unless he's traded without dipping into WBS. So who do you sign? Lovejob on the cheap - I'd say yes. So there is 7 with a mixture of youth & experience. Will that get us bye if we buy some depth? Or do we have to try & resign Shultz? We know the players or will by seasons end, they know us. What is the comparables on the FA or trade route (trade route probably not an option?)?
The whole point is resigning a known commodity, or trying to get a new player that may take a season to adjust, or doesn't fit.
I think they try & sign who finishes the season the best (make the decision this year between Daley or Shultz), as both Daley & Shultz will be north of 3m, & probably won't give a discount to play in Pittsburgh. Then they will be sure to know the type of player they are signing, & know he fits the system. They will have Daley for an extra year & will lose Cole with Daley (? is that right), as both contracts end, so that leaves the decision to sign Shultz this off season, then try & extend on a friendly contract Daley next season or trade him as Shultz is the man & try & replace both Cole & Daley on the cheap, or let Shultz go & try & keep Daley. Then going forward the D is set in stone with young & old. Not sure how that all goes with the cap but no one can at the moment as it hasn't been announced. |
