I think you're worried about that for nothing
Obviously we'll never know,
But there's nothing to suggest that if he's willing to sign now he'd change in mind in 3 weeks

You want to risk it ? You strike while the iron is hot. As pointed out . It really makes no difference. Gives the kid some money to help support his family which is needed . Terry's money . Actually a nice gesture by the team . One that builds Loyalty down the road that makes a kid want to stick with you.

Nash is a waste
- SABRES 89

U think?
He's been injured this year
Last year he had 40 something goals
That's pretty damn good

If the Rangers are just dumping him for picks, I'd take him for sure
He's only under contract for 2 years after this too

Not sure if it was thrown out there.

An NCAA player 21 years or younger may sign a 3 year ELC. 22 and older must sign a 2 year ELC. In this scenario, we get him for 9 games + 2 seasons. If we were stubborn no logical reason, we could have said eff off, you're not that valuable, go back to school. But that's dumb. Good job signing him.

All these posts about Fasching going back to school and becoming a F/A. The way I understood it is he's done with school. He completed his degree in 3 years and will graduate this May.

A waste might be a little harsh, but paying out the ass to trade for him would be a bad misstep.

These are the same people who said Eichel won't sign with Buffalo.

But u can't talk to the kid now & say something like...
Hey, we want u here. But there is this expansion draft coming up & we've gotta consider how we are gonna keep as many core guys around as possible.
It helps us out of you're willing to wait a few weeks to sign.
And in return for u waiting, we'll bump up your bonus a bit.

U really think the kid just says,
Nope, f#ck u guys...
Sign me NOW or I go back to school & become UFA

I just can't see it playing out like that
Wouldn't make sense
Especially if getting $$ is an issue, bc he'd then be waiting a whole other year to get paid

Even though he's graduating, he still has a year of eligibility left.
So he could go back, he'd just have to take a couple classes.

Also....

Unsigned draft picks (think college or European players) are exempt from the expansion draft for two years from their draft year but not in Year 3, so teams will have to either rush to sign those guys or simply expose them in the expansion draft.

I just think this so called "risk" is being blown out of proportion
What's out there that says this risk is legit?

There it is. I couldnt remember the reasoning of the contract thing with the 2 and 3 years. This is what i have been trying to explain all day long.

I hate to mention someone's 82 game pace but considering the lockout season is included, over the last 4 years including his sub par year this year, he's averaging around 35 goals a full season

Totally agree
Picks (not 1st round) & mid-level prospects (like Carrier) are what I'd be willing to move
I think NYR is in bad enough Cap trouble that they won't be able to demand a high return
Plus that contract is pretty big

There was an article of him speaking about "other options" for teams. Could be nothing. And it is impossible to find the same article now becuase every thing on google is about his new deal. But this "risk" being blown out of proportion. Ask Boston how they feel about that "risk"....

Screw Nash, we go after him it opens up a window for the Rangers to go after Stamkos.I'd rather wait and see what happens.

I think the only concern I'd have with him is injuries...
But I think he's only 31, so he should bounce back ok
I think he's only got 2 years left on his deal too, so if he is hurt or unproductive, we aren't stuck with him for too long

Definitely a risk there, but if they don't want too much for him he could be a pretty good fit down low on a line with Jack

I still don't think they have the space to make Stamkos work even if they were to unload Nash...but I am with you I would rather go after Stamkos

GREAT point
I think they'd still have to make some more moves though

I'd be willing to talk to NYR about Nash after we get Stamkos...
For the right price of course

to answer JD and Stripes IMO, we should focus on Stamkos alone as of now. We will have plenty of money and other assets to move for another player if Stamkos doesn't come here, there should be no hurry.

Do you honestly see us having a chance at Stamkos?

I really really feel like we will be nothing more than a bargaining chip to get a better contract from someone else like Babcock did to us.

Detroit, Anaheim, Toronto, or TBL
